A friend of mine presented me with an audiophile collection from his records. Among very talented artists that I didn't know, like the chinese percursionist Yim Hok Man, he included the jazz diva Shirley Horn. Shame on me for not listened to her before. So surfing through ebay I was lucky to come across a seller, vinyl collector, that had 5 titles at the time. For me it was a clear win-win situation so I got all of them in a row. I am looking now, for some Shirley Horn LP's to make some audio comparisons between CD x LP. The verve label has excellent sonic qualities for the Shirley's albuns. The whole family enjoyed her style. So I am looking for more ;o).
Slow tempo and the experience of a full life yield excellent results in this excellent CD by Shirley Horn. One of the last that Shirley Horn did before she passed away in 2005...George Mesterhazy provides a solid thoughtful backdrop to Shirley's sensative emotional phrasing...Never Let Me Go and Ill Wind stand out in this varied collection. The title tune May the Music Never End says it all. Pain and joy, age and youth, feeling is the thing and this compilation delivers.
One of her better cd's.
