As a sufferer of GAD (generalized anxiety disorder), I have been looking for any and all possible treatments to improve my life, as anxiety can be crippling!I bought this book on the advice of a person that used to be an anxiety sufferer as well. I am glad that I did. This book, though written originally in 1969, is full of information that is still pertinent today. Dr. Weekes was basically a pioneer in the use of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. She talks to you thru this book as if if she is sitting right beside you, telling you what to do to get better. She is open and honest, but reassuring at the same time. Although it didn't bother me, she does approach the anxiety subject, along with sometimes accompanying depression, as something that can be conquered without drugs. This is true in many cases, of course, BUT it doesn't take into account what science has since learned about serotonin and other chemicals in the brain and how these can affect our emotions and behavior. One must remember that the book was originally written in the 60's but the basic principles that she teaches are still just as true and relevant today. If you have any sort of anxiety/panic disorder and are serious about getting better, I highly recommend this book to you!Read full review
I am going to make this short and to the point. Had panic attacks since the age of 5 learned to cope with them. Then at the age of 29 derealization came into my life I struggled with that for almost a year until I found this book, I was desperate willing to try anything, so i bought it. Started reading this book, couldn't put it down actually. It helped so much with my derealization and panic attacks i was amazed. Within a month i was becoming my definition of normal again. It felt so good, i was so relieved. Wasn't sure how much longer i could hold on. It saved me. Hope this helps. Sorry that was a bit longer than expected. Have a blessed day.

I really was in need for some miracle when I went to my Dr. and he suggested some reading material to get me through some of most difficult times of my life. I can't even begin to tell how much this book helped me. I think if you are really feeling down and sad and think there is no way out you ought to just try to read this book. I found that once I picked it up it was difficult to put down. I also know that it helped me through some really trying times in my life and today still if something arises I just try to think of what it has handed me to make life easier. I would recommend to anyone even if you have a loved one going through a difficult time this might be helpful for you so you can try to understand what they are going through. I can't say enough about this book. Thank you for helping me.Read full review
I've recently had my first anxiety attack. And in the following month after, I was left feeling extremely anxious about my health and depressed almost at all hours of the day, with fear of no end in sight. Then, searching all across the internet for remedies and solutions, I found this book that was recommended by someone on reddit who dealt with a similar experience. It's amazing how simple and profound this book is. I'm not much of a reader, like at all, but this book felt like it was written specifically for me that it made it effortless to comprehend. I'm still dealing with some anxiety but I'm in totally better shape than I was before reading this book. What is so great about it, is it helps you understand your anxieties and the symptoms it causes, while also offering ways to deal with and accept them. So if you're someone who has been dealing with crippling anxiety, either recently or lifelong, and have felt like nothing will you overcome it, this book is for you. I strongly STRONGLY recommend it.Read full review

I was having anxiety attacks, that would send me to the emergency room thinking I was having a heart attack. And they did find some things that I was unaware of that needed to be dealt with. But this spring I had anxiety attack that was caused from adrenaline rushes, that created fear and more adrenaline rushes. Having been attending 12 step programs for a number of years, I discussed my problem with some friends, one suggested this book "HOPE AND HELP FOR YOUR NERVES" by Dr. Claire Weekes. Reading and following her suggestions, I was able to overcome these adrenaline rushes, I still get one occasionally, but it no longer controls me. I would definitely recommend this book if you have a nervous problem any sorts. Earl H (I ordered this book on eBay)
