Received the unit and was anxious to install but my plate retainer needed to be replaced. Test of unit standalone following charge of camera ok. Only about a foot apart. Proceeded to mount on plate when retainer replaced. Figured it would work like video shows. Attached to vehicle and and plugged monitor into 12 volt. Menu items ok. No picture from rear of vehicle. Removed the plate and placed in vehicle. NO image. Recharged camera using usb. Tested unit attached to plate inside vehicle. Picture from camera. Received from camera. Tried on rear of vehicle. No image received. Placed plate on back window shelf and received image. when inside vehicle. But image inconsistent. Sometimes available other times nothing. Manual says charge lasts several months without solar feed. Frustrated now as no image from camera. Get the solid blue indicating connection. Suggest you try unit charged from outside vehicle before connection to backing plate with your plate. Was looking forward to it working. Unfortunately cannot give positive review as unit did not work from rear. Frustrating to watch video and see panel trucks and pickups work with not problem. Read full review

Solves the issue of knowing which wires to tap into and no running wires through the car--entirely wireless. It is a great backup camera for the money--not top of the line by any means but still works well. My one and only complaint is the communication between the camera and then monitor only lasts for 30 seconds and I haven't found a way to allow the time out to last a bit longer. Usually 30 seconds is good but sometimes you want it longer such as for backing in and out of tight spaces or parallel parking.

The camera is very easy to install and get it to operate. The reason I give it 4 stars rather than 5 is the picture is so wide that makes objects very small and may be difficult to identify, yet good enough to tell you there is an object in your path to avoid ! All-in-all I highly recommend it if you do not want to fool with wiring installation.

My vehicle has a continuously powered outlet (not jus whern the vehicle is on) so I need to unplug and plug it in in again to get it to start properly. Otherwise pushing the power button jusst calls up a blank screen. Also I have been unable to get the menu screens to work at all; for example I can't get the guide lines to appear on the screen. Still the image quality is good, at least in daylight. Takes more than "a few minutes" to install.

For the price this backup camera is tough to beat. One of the biggest drawbacks in backup cameras is having to run wires from one end of your car to the other. With the Whistler, all that is eliminated. It took about 10-15 minutes to install, and works great. The pictures quality could be better, but for the price this one can't be beat. It does what I need, easy to install. I would highly recommend it.

I was a little hesitant to buy this based on some reviews that referenced the poor connection between the camera and monitor. However, mine is installed and works great. I have a rather small car so I’m guessing that is a factor. I’m very happy with the item and would have given five stars except that it does not work well at night unless you are in a very well-lit area. Installation was easy and the best price I found was on eBay. These are commonly sold at Walmart but look around on eBay and you can easily beat their price.
