  • Fitbits for the dogs

I was wondering how active my dogs were during the day. According to Fitbit, not very much. Mated up with a dog collar housing found on thingiverse, the Fitbit Zip shows me that the dogs get up and wander around in the middle of the night but get most of their exercise when we're out walking together. I tried using the rubber housing and hooking it to the leash loop on the collar but that seems to count too many steps. Had the active dog with the collar housing the lazy dog on the leash loop and the lazy dog registered far more steps. Currently have collar housings for both dogs, results aren't in yet. The Zip is great because the six month battery life doesn't require weekly attention. Using a little bit of electrical tape over the battery cover seems to keep it water resistant. The dogs don't swim much but are constantly wading into water up to their necks. It's nice to have the display to confirm whether it is working and get interim readings throughout the day. The tracker has worked exactly as I expected. Setting up an account with Fitbit was a little bit of a problem because they don't permit participants under 14 years old. Trying to create an account for a child will give Fitbit a fit and you can't even get into the account to fix the birthday. Had to uninstall and reinstall the software just to be able to fix the birthdate. Just adjust for dog years (over 13 years old) and create an alias email account and all of their messages come to my email box. I haven't calibrated their stride yet, that will take some consideration about how much time they spend walking vs. running. Have considered using another model of Fitbit but they all need to be charged at lease once per week. Have considered one of the cheap Chinese-made trackers and Fitbark but they don't show up as a Fitbit friend. I have a number of friends on the Fitbit network and am not interested in trying any of the third-party tracking software.

  • Adorbs

Fitbit discontinued producing the Zip, which makes this item in-demand. Small and simple, the Zip comes in a couple colors with aftermarket accessories in almost any hue. The device works with an app for your smartphone and will sync automatically. At less than an inch and a half square, the Zip fits into any pocket without being weighty. The downside of using the Zip is the battery. The rear compartment bay is difficult to open due to the shallowness of the slot. A damaged slot means rigging a replacement closure. The button battery should last a month or more, but can give out within a week. Inside the battery bay is a metal contact which becomes wedged out of place; realigning the contact should work, but not always. Overall, a very cute step counter with two design flaws.

  • Great option if you want to try a Fitbit

I've had both the Fitbit Flex and chargeHR products and recently purchased an Iwatch. I sold my Fitbit Charge HR because I was going to exclusively use the Apple Watch step/exercise feature. After a few weeks however, I missed the Fitbit community so decided to purchase the fitbit zip and have been very pleased with the results. It's great because the battery stays charged for like six months. My only problem is that I sometimes forget to put it on!!! This is a great inexpensive option for anyone who wants to "step" into the fitbit community.

  • Great little basic tracker.

This is a nice inconspicuous activity tracker that sync's to a phone. Just slip it onto your pants pocket and it works. I bought this to replace one that my wife had lost. We looked at wrist mounted trackers, but they were either too big or uncomfortable. My wife really likes the size of this one. I have a green version of this tracker, and have used it every day since 2014. It's basic, but it always works. It takes a beating and never complains other than needing a new battery every couple of months. I would by another one if either of ours gets lost.

  • Love the Zip

The reason the Fitbit Zip is still so expensive even when it is old and outdated? In my opinion it is because you can not kill this thing! It lives forever and is so reliable! You can hook it to ur bra and forget it! It can be read in sunlight. A battery lasts about 3 months in it. You can order the battery on Amazon really cheap. It comes in colors as do the clips. A piece of scotch tape makes a nice screen protector for it (lol) or you can buy one on line.

  • excellent step reader

The fitbit zip is accurate, easy to read, and easy to use. Keep track of steps, calories, and distance. Just clip and go and watch yourself meet your stepping goals! [Just don't wear it while using a riding lawn mower if you want accuracy ;) ]

  • Wife loves it

Took a shot that she would even use something like this but my wife loves it. Wears it everyday to work where she a nurse on her feet a lot for her job. Loves to come home and report how many steps (and miles) she has walked during her day. She is now walking further with our dogs on her off days so that she gets her steps in before she goes to bed.

  • Works & looks great

I bought this for my wife and she loves it. Its very easy to setup and connect to whatever device you choose to use. Its small but not to small to switch modes, check your status and such. Worth the price and we have no issues with this product what so ever.

  • Easy Fun

First off, I don't want to wear something on my wrist. This can be worn on your belt, bra, or in your pocket. I carry mine in my pocket each day. It's accurate as far as your steps taken, but the mileage is not as accurate. Maybe within 10%. Doesn't work on a stationary bike. But I don't want anything fancy. I just want to know how many steps, calories, and distance and that's all this does. ALSO.....I don't want to have to charge every day. This uses a cheap, easy to find battery and it lasts for months. In my mind, this is the perfect Fitbit.

  • Awesome unobtrusive tracker.

I like it very much. I hook it onto my bra and don’t feel it. Too bad it doesn’t do the sleeping feature.
