TLDR, the monitor works great, but HDR cannot be used simultaneously with high refresh rate (>60hz).
The OSD is... ASUS style, very disappointing piece of... firmware. If this is like the other ASUS monitors I purposed over the past decades, it should last a decade.
Pros:
- 165hz (overclocked), very smooth visuals
- narrow bezels
- almost zero backlight bleed on my unit
- adaptive-sync
- ELMB sync (Extreme Low Motion Blur) (fancy backlight strobing)
- 165hz (oc) can be ran with adaptive-sync and ELMB
Cons:
- HDR mode locks refresh rate at 60hz... THIS IS A KILLER FEATURE... THAT CAN'T BE USED???
- Depending on the DisplayPort cable and the connecting port, the OC might cause the screen to blackout. The OSD will stop working too, you will need to connect via HDMI or another input, go into OSD and reset (all settings)
- 165hz (or 120hz) cannot be ran with Trace Free, ASCR (ASUS Smart Contrast Ratio)
- No matter which mode I choose, I can't activate DDC/CI (Display Data Channel / Command Interface)
- The "GameVisual" modes (Scenery, racing, cinema...) have different "feature locks", and there's no custom mode
- sRGB mode blocks the control of brightness, contrast, saturation, color temp, skin tone...
Mehs:
- ELMB will cause a severe drop in brightness (it's supposed to), but in some modes, brightness cannot be increased... So... yea...
- Only 3 altered profiles can be saved (I can't really type customized, since they can't deviate much from the default modes)
- The manual and warranty card inside the box was not taped down or contained in a plastic zipped bag, it flopped around, left 2 very distinct marks on my unit... Luckily, the panel isn't scratched! I rubbed the marks off with a microfiber cloth. I was pretty scared when I opened the box
- The default buttons "shortcuts" are... not very useful
- The monitor runs quite warm (around 30ºC ~ 38ºC)
- Why does it come with speakers? Money is better spent elsewhere... Side note, the speakers aren't absolutely horrible, they appear to be similar to premium notebook speakers.
