ReviewsThere's nothing safe about fantasy like this: intriguing, complex, thought provoking, exceedingly well-written, and, for the intelligent reader, exhilaratingly satisfying., Complex, challenging.Erikson's strengths are his grown-up characters and his ability to create a world every bit as intricate and messy as our own., Steven Erikson is an extraordinary writer. My advice to anyone who might listen to me: Treat yourself to Gardens of the Moon., Erikson is a master of lost and forgotten epochs, a weaver of ancient epics on a scale that would approach absurdity if it wasn't so much fun., A brilliant book! Exciting, inventive, intelligent--frequently funny. A wonderful book to read and to recommend to others., I stand slack-jawed in awe of The Malazan Book of the Fallen. This masterwork of imagination may be the high water mark of epic fantasy., I stand slack-jawed in awe of The Malazan Book of the Fallen. Edition DescriptionRevised edition
SynopsisVast legions of gods, mages, humans, dragons and all manner of creatures play out the fate of the Malazan Empire in this first book in a major epic fantasy series The Malazan Empire simmers with discontent, bled dry by interminable warfare, bitter infighting and bloody confrontations with the formidable Anomander Rake and his Tiste Andii, ancient and implacable sorcerers. Even the imperial legions, long inured to the bloodshed, yearn for some respite. Yet Empress Laseen's rule remains absolute, enforced by her dread Claw assassins. For Sergeant Whiskeyjack and his squad of Bridgeburners, and for Tattersail, surviving cadre mage of the Second Legion, the aftermath of the siege of Pale should have been a time to mourn the many dead. But Darujhistan, last of the Free Cities of Genabackis, yet holds out. It is to this ancient citadel that Laseen turns her predatory gaze. However, it would appear that the Empire is not alone in this great game. Sinister, shadowbound forces are gathering as the gods themselves prepare to play their hand... • Great Bundle for the Price

Got a solid series of books for half if not less the cost it would've been to purchase each one from a sight like Chapters. Haven't fully dug into them but I can say it was a worthwhile purchase. Only complaint was that a few of the books were scuffed up but that was likely due to being shipped.

  • start your journey into the world of Malazan

The beginning of the most amazing fantasy series I have ever read. I will admit- the first read through can be tough. You are dropped into a HUGE world and not everything will make sense. Stick with it. This is a 10 book series, and when you get to the end of the Malazan Book of the Fallen it will be an experience like no other. The writing reminds me of Gene Wolfe in the way that it challenges and enlightens, but the story itself is definitely its own creation. Highly recommend to everyone who wants to invest in a world as big as their own..

Pretty great book. I'd put it up there with ASOIAF and The Kingkiller Chronicles.
