About this product

Product Information

Rick Griffin was one of the most influential artists to emerge from the late 60s San Francisco art scene, second only perhaps to R. Crumb. His poster art and comix are descended from dada and surrealism, but take unique life in their representation of surf culture, psychedelic realities and religious experience. This book covers the span of Griffin's career and is an excellent retrospective of the work of this magnificent artist. Griffin illustrated top flight album covers for classic rock acts including the Grateful Dead.

  • A publishing insult to a great artist

A horribly produced book by Paper Tiger. Rick Griffin deserved much better but surprisingly, there's only one other book to search for and this is the catalogue "Heart and Torch, Rick Griffin's Transcendence". The first problem is the binding. As soon as you open the book, be prepared for the binding to totally separate from the contents. The paper is poor quality, color images are washed out, and the text is filler at best. The book no longer costs $6.95 as the sticker proclaims. Too bad as $6.95 is an appropriate price in today's market. Hopefully Rick's estate will be compelled to produce a book worthy of his artistic creations in the future.
