I love this movie as it was so indicative of the time frame in which I grew up in. The turmoil a wayward and lost teenager goes through as he tties to sort out his/her feelings about things and what kind of things can befall them as they search. Acting out can lead to more trouble then one ever hopes to bring on themselves and sometimes no matter what is done to be good, trouble always follows one anyway. A great movie portraying the pitfalls of trying to grow up through a teenagers eyes. James Dean, himself probably in the same place as the person he portrayed in this movie, did a smashing job getting the message across and it was too bad that he left us so soon as he was an actor who could make one feel just what you were meant to feel while watching him. This was one heck of a movie I thought!!Read full review
This is an essential purchase for fans of the title, director Nicholas Ray, actors James Dean, Sal Mineo and Natalie Wood, and CinemaScope. Even more important for archival purposes, the second DVD includes screen tests, wardrobe tests and other supplements no fan can be without. Especially the improvised horseplay between Dean and Mineo in the March 1955 black and white footage filmed on the set of A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE. The restoration quality is top-notch, and Leonard Roseman's wonderful score can be clearly heard and enjoyed. The perfect gift for enthusiasts of this classic is the special edition DVD with the book LIVE FAST, DIE YOUNG by Lawrence Frascella and Al Weisel.
I saw Rebel without a Cause as young kid and this movie stay with me as I got older in the years. As a young kid in 1950's you want to be James Dean. James, was so cool. So, I would just say, Rebel without Cause is just great movie from a past now gone.

The cast of this movie ended in such tragedy. There's James Dean, Natalie Wood and Sal Mineo--all of whom ended their rising star lives too soon. In this James Dean is new to town. His father is Jim Baccus (Thurston Howell III from Gilligan's Island.) He doesn't understand his son. Natalie Wood is misunderstood by her family too. So is Sal Mineo who befriends James Dean's character. There are a few famous scenes from this movie including the fight at the Observatory and the car race which ends in tragedy. The first scene is so gripping--as the credits begin, a drunk James Dean is so caring--he takes off his coat and covers a toy because of the chill. It is remarkable!
Always been a Dean fan. My favorite of his 3 big movies is definitely Rebel. The xtra dvd chronicling his life with several movie star interviews is an added bonus!
