First off, I love Rania's videos. I've been a belly dancer for over a decade and have an extensive video library. There seems to be two mindsets about what a belly dance workout should be: slow and organic or high paced and challenging. I believe both are pertinent if you want to belly dance. HOWEVER, if you're looking to lose weight, increase stamina and tone you have to suck it up and break a sweat and not all the "goddess" meditations in the world are going to help you achieve that. Rania's videos and especially this one will do all three and do it very quickly. It's compiled of of 10 minute segments and one 30 minute cardio segment that I believe totals 110 minutes of workout options. You can break up these segments over different days and come up with countless workout customized combinations. They are regimented and in drill form where you doing SEVERAL repetitions. Rania does not molly cottle you..she pushes you, hard. By doing this you get extreme muscle memory relatively quickly and when she says you can shed 3 pounds in a week she's telling the truth...that is if you get in there and do it. Your endurance increases rapidly which is always a good thing whether you're running errands or doing a long dance set at your local restaurant. Sure some of the drills will test your patience but you have to ask yourself is it because it's tedious or are you just frustrated trying to keep up? This dvd is designed to get you in shape using belly dance moves and strengthening. There's been some snarkiness over the last few years in the belly dance community also about body type and what a "true belly dancer body" should look like. A large contingent have stated belly dancers should be curvy, voluptuous and soft. Unfortunately that has been coming out of certain dancers who are, (sorry!), just plain fat and flabby. I don't believe being your own "goddess" means that you should be happy with the status quo. As belly dancers we transform, transfix and evolve. If your status quo is being overweight you are not embracing your inner goddess. The Goddess wants us to be healthy, filled with energy and zest. Belly dance does create beautiful, curvaceous and strong bodies. But like everything in life you get out of it what you put into it. I have other videos that focus on the fluid and meditative qualities of the dance and having a stronger heart, greater lung capacity and solid core make that form of the dance all the more powerful. Belly dance is a dance created by women, for women. It is for ALL women and ANYONE can do it. I am actually disabled. I have had five spinal surgeries and live with a spinal implant... I also dance 4-5 times a week and quite honestly i don't know if I'd still be here if it wasn't for it. It's helped heal me. It's kept me from the depression that comes with the kind of chronic pain I live with daily. It also took me from a size 12 from all the medication and surgery to a size 4. I have five of her other videos and this one is my favorite. It really is "a gym in a box" but you're belly dancing! How much more fun is that than actually going to a smelly, noisy and monotonous gym? This video is A+ if you want to get in shape and get healthy in a very enjoyable way!Read full review
I liked the flexibility in the program. This isn't your typical start-at-the-beginning-and-go-through-the-end workout tape, which leaves you bored after a few weeks. It works in a calendar-week format, which is also user controlled. You have 6 (I think) weekly calendars, each calendar with a different emphasis from weight loss, cardio, targeting specific areas, to 'fit it in', and maintenace, with every day a different workout routine or arrangement. Once you get to know the moves, they even give you the option of turning off the vocal overlay and just working to video and music w/o instruction. And while the calendar works Sunday thru Saturday, there is nothing stopping you from selecting Thursday's routine on Monday and Sunday's on Friday. And from another menu, you can also pick and choose from all the routines which you want to do and string them together any way you want. I am an intermediate level bellydancer and I have fun with it, and can see where I can change out certain moves with others to keep it interesting. But most of all, I enjoy the fact I can do the moves without straining arthritic knees, and still feel like I'm getting a real workout without obsessing over choreography. And if you don't know the moves? she gives a visual library reference at the end with all the basics from hip circles to figure-8s to undulations to get you going.Read full review
This is a great belly dance workout program it adjust to your needs I love it! You can chose what you want to do each day and it also gives you tips about how to eat or exercise. It has a library with the moves so if you are a beginner it will show you how to do the move!
I bought this product because i have done other videos with Rania and i loved them. This video was not my favorite of hers though. Alot of it was different videos she had done cut screened together and it made it difficult and confusing to follow. The strength training part was nice though !
If you like Belly Dancing and losing weight this is the DVD for you. I own it and I enjoy this DVD so much. I would tell anyone who would like to lose weight, and is learning belly dancing to get this DVD. It is a must have.
