I played this long ago when it first released, around 17 years ago, and it's still as fun as it was then. It's outdated graphically, but for its time it was good for the genre, the mechanics and gameplay are a gem, imo X is the best of the series. You have a lot more freedom in this version and you can play any character, a low ranked green officer working his way up, have your own rogue army, take over a vacant city or even rebel against yourr lord. You can duel, debate also which are like minigames, all in all if you like this series and RPG you'll love ROTK X.

Im a huge fan of the series I already owned both the 8th and 11th titles, I got this one because it was the only other rotk game that was similar to the 8th (rpg type) which I considered the best of the line of this series this game is a match for it. This one like the 8th is a rpg game and within it there are 600+ characters you can control and see the game through with, you can take on the role of ruler, general, prefect, vassal or a free officer. One of the things I dont like is that you are not able to take more than 60 days worth of food with you when marching this is really irretating even more so when you add the fact that your only allowed a certain number of units in your cities so you cannot transport hordes of units to a city you just conquered if the city is small which only permits 5 units to be stationed there. Having the 11th I can see that both the problems I have with the 10th have been resolved but there very different the 11th returns to old system where you play the role of the ruler of your force. The only real comparison is the 8th, rotk 8 had much more scenarios within the game it covered all the years from 184-234 plus three more. This one only has 8 also it lacks the variety of endings the 8th had but the game play has improved the new system makes actions got by per day instead of having action points which after you use up you be inactive for the rest of the month. Also you can travel all of the map of china in this period freely which is one of the best feature this game has to offer. Anyone who is a fan of this series is missing out greatly by not having this game and I hope koei will make a future sequel that takes after the rpg elements of this and the 8th title.Read full review
Romance of the Three Kingdoms X is, in my opinion, the best of the long series. I have played almost all of the other RTK(Romance V is very very hard to find) so I know what is out there. This game gives you excellent (maybe even the best RTK) background music, great strategy, ultimate challenges and you even learn alot of ancient Chinese history along the way which I am facinated with. This game is about one thing: Conquest. You have expanded freedom in this game it is amazing, you can be anything you want in this game. You can be one of the existing masters or you can create your own from a huge collection of portraits. RTK X really does give you some many more options than any of the others from the series do. I personally do not like RTK games that are NOT USER FRIENDLY(and a few of them are). This one is so easy to learn that you don't have to sit and study the instruction book like you are in school. Its that easy. If you are interested in time based strategy games, then this game has it all. If you are a veteran of the RTK saga, then this will be even better. Get RTK X, you will not be dissapointed. Hope you enjoyed my review, have fun.Read full review
Simply put, you will find the most freedom within a strategy game in the RTK series. RTK 10 is no exception... This game is about acquiring the best talent (officers with high stats), increasing the economic stability and military strength of your territory and taking over the country. The beauty in this game is that the game is never played the same way twice. This game is not for those looking for supurb graphics or action sequences. It is a pure strategy game, turn based. Speed of thought and hand-eye coordination are not the key. Its not a game you are going to pick up in a matter of a couple hours... takes several weeks to fully understand. But once you do, and you enjoy these types of games like I do... you'll be hooked!
I loved this game alot, mainly because I'm a fan of strategy games, but on top of that it was one of the best strategy games that I've played. It allows a person to create their own officers, who in turn can be related, married, and have a close friend. It allowed me to make my own family on the game, which I enjoyed, haha. The gameplay is nice for a strategy game, but if done over hours and hours it may get repetitive, otherwise it's an amazing game played in moderation.
