I remember watching this movie for the first time as a teenager. The story of a young man longing to do heroic deeds. His sorcoress mother and the great quest that would fulfill his aspirations and save the known world from the evil magician. Made in the days before computer generated special effects. The story is excellent, with just the right amount of humor (provided by the often kooky Ann Helm) to keep the plot moving and the content light. It stars a young man; Gary Lockwood, who never got that "big, career making break', but was a fine actor none the less. Rating is an A, a must see despite its era.
I bought this after not having seen it since I was maybe 8 or 9. Seeing it now at 62 I see it was maybe the worst movie ever made. But it did bring back fun memories

I remembered this as a child, though not very well. Acting was dated and don't expect much in the way of special effects, though probably good for the time. By all means, get it for a retro movie or for single-digit aged children, but adults should not expect too much. I watched it and gave it away.
