This was my first John Saul book. The cover and title got me. This was a good book, too. Saul did very well with character depth and plot twists - I couldn't put the book down! At first I thought it was going to be a modern day vampire book (which it could really could have been), but it turned into something entirely different, and actually kinda predictable. Without giving too much away, the idea of the book is that woman are turning up missing, and all of them vanished after an "Open House". Wow, sounds exciting! And it was, but as the book progressed further it funneled down into predictable territory until the final pages where you're telling yourself, "I knew it was him/her/them from the beginning". And it was. I still think it would have been a better vampire book.
This is a thriller you will get sucked into and never put down. There were times when I was afraid to turn the page. I had to catch my breath and then continue. You think you figured it out.... but you didn't. Fabulous ending. Will not disappoint the reader.

I've enjoyed all of John Saul's books, and this one is no exception. The character depth and plot twists kept me from putting the book down. I truly didn't guess "whodunit" until the very end. Also, there is a very surprising plot development involving Lindsay's dad toward the end, that I never expected. Definitely worth reading!
My favorite book of all time, the end is totally unexpected !! It just came to show that the human mind is way more frightening than any ghosts, monsters, or superanatural beings out there. I truly recommend this book for any horror/thriller fans of John Saul.
I have never been able to read one of John Sauls' books without putting it down for more than two seconds. This one was just as great! I got chills reading through it!
You can't call yourself a John Saul fan-or a suspense/horror fan for that matter-if you don't read this book! John Saul does it again, scaring us silly but still making us unable to put down the book causing us so much horror!!!!!!
