The DCP-501 is the only device that combines all the desired home entertainment capabilities with digital cable decoder. The sound and features are tremendous and its easy to use. No more having a DVD, Stereo, home theater sound system and cable converter box cluttering up the living room, this one system does it all. The only drawback is that the unit is a little larger than most equipment and you will need deep shelf in your entertainment center. The great benefit is that it has a DCT-2000 cable converter built into the system that your cable company can activate on your account and you can save the monthly rental fees for the cable converter box. This device is the only consumer market device with a cable converter. Since all other converter devices are only sold to cable companies, this is the only device that cable companies will normally allow to be added to your cable service as customer owned equipment. While some newer equipment will allow the use of a smart card to access digital cable signals, they don't work with the on-demand type of services. The DCP-501 works seamlessly with cable systems that use the Motorola DCT-2000 decoding standards. Given that the current market prices for the DCP-501 are typically $179 or less, this is a great deal and will enhance any entertainment and video system. Since the unit does weigh abit, shipping prices are often $30 or more adding to the overall cost. Quit paying the cable company monthly rent to use their equipment, buy the DCP-501.Read full review
Okay--this unit is a little big! But if you have room for it (17x6x20) then it is worth the 5.1 channel dolby surround and built-in digital and analog tuner. The DVD drive plays mp3 cd's and DVD-R's. I have a Pioneer receiver in my house with 450 watts--the DCP501 has 50 more watts. The unit supports composite and S-Video (you should use S-Video to your TV) and lots of inputs and outputs to connect to video game systems and other media devices. This is not the unit for the home audiophile - it is great for those wanting to play DVD's and TV in home theater surround sound at a discount. I recommend to: families wanting to have a home theater as well as college students who throw parties and don't want to spend $800+ on a receiver!
I love this piece of equipment! It is by far the loudest home system I have ever heard, capable of running car subwoofers at 4ohms!! I just wish tripath never went under becuase it would be nice to be able to get an updated version of this unit with blu-ray.
I really like it because you can connect a bunch of devices, besides having tha dvd player integrated and the only thing I don't like abou it is that does not have an output for subwoofer, but it still great quality sound !!
