  • Corner stone of anime

No matter what your preference in anime is or if you like or dislike this type of a production, Evangelion is too much of a classic to be ignored. I would recommend, at least a viewing, for anyone that got into anime after it came out since it will shine upon the origins of a lot of tropes that are flowing around today's industry. And i say to those that got into it after it came out as i doubt there are a lot of anime fans from before Evangelion that do not know about it. Despite my love for the outdoors i am also an avid screen viewer and after countless anime series that I've had the pleasure and, let's face it, displeasure of watching, Evangelion still remains as one of the few mind-benders out there that triggers my curiosity and thought process with every viewing without exception.

  • Expensive nowadays, but still worth it.

Let me start off by saying that this show is hard to find because of the limited printing. Usually, one has to search far and wide for a legit copy (not a bootleg), and even then finding one in like new condition for under $140 is rare. Luckily I was able to get one for less and couldn't be happier. Sure it is very bare bones compared to the regular edition (non thinpack), but I am a big fan of the show, and the regular edition doesn't have too many extras, and the thinpack supposedly has a higher bit rate than the regular version. The Blu-ray edition that came out in Japan does look a lot nicer, but it has yet to be released in the U.S. with a sub or dub, so if you can, you might want to wait for that to be licensed here. If you're not willing to wait around 3-4 years, or however long that takes, and are a big fan of Eva, then go ahead and buy this. Just be aware of bootlegs (look at the "G" font in the title, for example), and make sure the seller provides plenty of pictures.

  • The bare-bones great

This includes 6 slim DVD cases with ADV English and Japanese dubs for Region 1 and the director's cut versions of four episodes. I originally went for the holiday special version, which also included all the bonus features, but the bid request increased drastically after I bid for it. This was the last Region 1 version available. The image quality is good, better than the early DVD releases (blu-ray versions are not set to release in U.S.). Minor scuffs on the box were on the corner, as expected, but the box artwork is replicated on two of the slim cases anyway. I do want to recommend holding the cases in with a rubber band, since there's only so many times I could use cling wrap once out of the package.

  • Neon Genesis Evangelion the Champagne edition

Neon Genesis Evangelion is my favorite anime of all time, so obviously i try to collect the most valuable box sets. Note that when it comes down to the Paul Champagne collection, the only thing thats valuable about it is the box itself, because only 2000 exist in the world ( i own #0945). The boxes are numbered from #0001 to #2000. If i am not mistaken, i beleive the paul champagne collection came out before the Neon Genesis Platinum collection , the champagne box fits 8 dvd cases, which is perfect for the neon genesis evangelion "perfect collection" which is 8 dvds in total. The only problem is, that the perfect collection is the worst and cheapest version of the anime you can purchase other than bootleg. The neon Genesis Evangelion Platinium complete box set is only 7 dvds and much higher visual and audio quality, unfortunately since its only 7 dvds, it wouldnt look right in the champagne box. To sum up my review, there are no blu ray versions of Neon Genesis Evangelion, the most expensive and rare box you can find is the Paul Champagne box, the worst set you can own is the Perfect Collection, and the best set you can own is the platinum collection. There are 3 different versions of the platinum, the 1st is the original platinum version which has 7 dvd cases, each with its own platinum colored cardboard sleeve/case. The 2nd is the Platinim slim and the last is the Neon Genesis Evangelion Platinum Holiday Special complete collection. Even though there are 3 different version of the platinum collection, the dvds are all the same, the only difference is the box.

  • Platinum Edition is worth the price tag (for now)...

As an owner of both the Platinum Edition AND the Bluray remake/redirects, I must say that the Platinum original series is well worth the inflated prices. I am not a fan of Evangelion from when it aired. I have been aware of ot and its accolades for many years, but only got into the show recently. I can honestly say that the Platinum standard def DVDs have a special vive to them. The artwork and animation is processed with old school methods, and not as clean or sharp as the blue Ray's obviously.. but the Bluray remake feels very forced to be hi-def. Both are good in their own ways.. but if you are a fan of older shows like Gatchaman or Space Adventure Cobra.. or movies like Akira or Ninja Scroll.. then you will undoubtedly appreciate the craftsmanship behind the original animations on the Platinum set.

  • More than nostalgia!

For Evangelion fans who enjoyed the ADV English dub, or new Evangelion fans who are curious and wants to experience the stellar performances that made this Japanese masterpiece a classic in the US! Everyone did a great job, but the star is Spike Spencer. In my opinion, he will always be Shinji. Some voices you can never separate from a character, and if you haven't seen the series yet, you'll know why when you watch it. This boxset is the most recommended by fans in terms of the quality of the ADV dub, which is why I, as well as many others, prefer it. The show is a bit complex, as it deconstructs Japanese anime character archetypes, while telling a story of a group of a chosen few adolescents with psychological baggage and circle of traumatized men and women, who must learn how to function and work together to stop these "Angels" from initiating an apocalypse bigger than anything that happened before.

  • The Blueprint of Mecha Anime!

I'm a true 90's anime fan so for those who know what that means, I love anime from the 80's and 90's because of the Nostalgia. With that being said, I never had the chance to experience how truly iconic Neon Genesis Evangelion truly is until I decided to buy this Platinum Collection *Brand New* for $300. Yes, I did it because I'm one of those Anime fans that truly appreciates the hard work and dedication that the creator, writers, and animators did for such a Legendary series like this especially since I've never gotten to experience it. And let me tell you, I truly don't regret buying this at all, I'm honestly PROUD of myself for buying it Brand New and experiencing it in perfection unlike how they remade it on Netflix (All Shade Intended). There was no way I was gonna watch that mess on Netflix especially after all of the horrible stuff I heard from other fans that they did it by cutting out alot of things from the original. And that's why I bought this version because nothing was cut out and it's all in it's original form from the voices and scenes. It's all Raw completely. Now I don't like to into complete details about reviewing series because I don't like to spoil anything so I'll keep it short and get straight to the point...This story follows a 14 year old boy named Shinji. He arrives in a town to visit his father because he needed his help but he didn't tell Shinji what it was he needed his help for...Then all of a sudden, Shinji notices a War going on and is caught in between it until a mysterious woman who shows up to protect him and tells him that she's works for his father and was ordered to take him to his father. After successfully getting away from the Chaos war, They both arrive in a Mecha Corporation Facility called "NERV" which turns out to be a company that Shinji's father is the boss at and is looking for recruits to pilot these Mecha machines called "EVAS" to help destroy these Angel Monsters to help save Humanity. Now why in the world would they put a 14 year old CHILD in a huge Mecha machine to fight some Monsters is...Crazy...But that's what's good about it, The story is so good and will keep you hooked on Shinji along with the other characters that he ends up meeting. My order came packaged perfectly (I'll include photos to show what it looked like), It had plastic wrap all over it because it was Brand new but I removed it before I took the photos. Now the only thing I didn't like was how the box looked like it was kinda crunched just a little bit but it's not that serious to really get that upset about. It could have been a factory seal type of issue which is common. Other than that, The box art was Excellent, All DVD cases were beautiful, and it didn't take long to arrive. This series can be watched in English Dub or Japanese Audio with English Subtitles just in case anyone wants to know and keep in mind that while watching this, You might need to turn the volume up because sometimes some characters speak in such a low tone voice that you might not be able to hear them. But for some odd reason, the background effects are always loud. But I guess that's just how alot of Anime series are alot of the time with their sounds. Other than that, This is a truly iconic series that every Anime fan must own and I'm happy that I treated myself to owning this series.

  • Relive a masterpiece

I watched this back when I was in middle school. I watched up until the appearance of Aska on Netflix and was so disappointed with the new voice actors I had to get the origional. Even after all these years this show is still stunning. Watching as an adult I see so much more that I missed. Great watch and still holds up after all this time.

  • Neon Genesis Evangelion: Platinum Edition

Best version of the series. Has everything you would want or need. Netflix doesn’t have this!

  • Buy it

Exactly what I ordered, a like-new edition of the 2005 release of Neon Genesis Evangelion. Aside from some extremely minor smashing of a couple corners on the box (it appears all box sets of this show have that exactly wearing), it is absolutely impeccable in condition. It's definitely worth the 200 bucks for such an iconic show that set the stage for future animes.
