Vent way more smoke and steam!
I have an over the oven microwave and even though it is vented to the outside of the house, there is a lot of smoke/steam that is not captured by it and accumulates in the kitchen. This seems to be largely due to the fact that the front burners are completely in front of the microwave. This hood extension essentially solves this problem, capturing and directing the smoke/steam back to the fan. Now, while everything is initially captured it seems that it still does not all get vented out. However, I would say that this has increased the amount being vented from about 25% up to about 75%, so still a big improvement. It takes some minor getting used to having the hood stick out that extra bit, but if you ever run into a situation where it is in the way, the hood itself can be easily removed, it is only the bracket that holds it that is screwed on. Heat deflection.
I use a gas stove and using the front eyes would make the door of my microwave scalding hot. So hot it started melting the skin on door handle. Very easy to install. The instructions are perhaps overly detailed and in reality, it installs in about a minute if you already own a Philips screwdriver. My wife was concerned that it might get in the way. On the contrary, it does not and in fact, upgrades the overall appearance of the range and microwave. She loves it. Unit installed easily in a couple of minutes. I'd ordered the stainless steel model which matches everything in our kitchen, and I'm glad it didn't come with the oval-shaped black logo...I was expecting to have to remove it but was happy to see it wasn't on the unit. The only comment I would have to a potential buyer is to understand it blocks all the light, so you can't see what you're cooking without under-cabinet lighting. Fortunately, we have a rather fancy 15-strip under-cabinet LED lighting system with 4 of the strips specifically for the top of the stove, so lighting is no issue...but if I were to turn the lights off, you couldn't see anything.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
