Very Cool Thermostat
Very well made. Unfortunately there are some older HVAC units that are not compatible. The one weird thing is that the apps that can control it are Nest app and Google Home app. Google needs to go ahead and migrate everything away from the nest app to Google home. The user has full control of the 3rd gen learning thermostat with Nest but only partial control with Google home (especially settings). I have the new Google Nest thermostat for my upstairs unit, but it only uses Google home app and not Nest. Confusing.

I was skeptical-
My stars say it all. A couple of notes that I was initially confused about. The voltage requirement is 24VAC which is provided by virtually all conventional heating plants. There are exceptions but deal mainly with exotic systems. I was surprised to discover that my 30 yr old Honeywell two wire circulator control supplies the voltage needed. Besides the obvious ability to control your thermostat away from home, it reports current indoor temps and humidity as well as outdoor weather conditions. Another great feature is compiling and storing your daily energy consumption. You will not be sorry you purchased this product.

If you have never used a smart thermostat like the Nest Learning Gen 3, you are in for a treat. Installation is easy with good directions and aids, the controls make sense and it is very responsive to the settings and changes that you make. iTunes thing that I did learn is that you can’t link two Nest devices to the same phone or iPad. Otherwise, this is a great product.

The thermostat began learning our schedule immediately and within a day or so we didn't have to touch it. The away feature that tracks your cell phone is pretty cool. I needed a professional installer because of the type of HVAC system we have, but other people I know installed theirs with no problem. It's worth it to check the Nest website. You can input the wires you have connected and answer 1 or 2 more questions and it will tell you if you need a pro installer or not.

Easy install. Good so far.
Unit installation was easy and unit works as expected. Only had it installed a few days so it is still learning but I like it so far. Controlling temperature setting from phone is very convenient. Auto on/off when I leave or return home is also very nice. AC kicks on right after I walk through the door. Wall plate was big enough to cover paint imperfections from previous thermostat.

Nest Gen 3 Thermostat
Small yet noticeable when someone walks by. Display is off normally until someone is near. Temperature is dialed in like a 4 inch round knob. Lots of features that can be accessed by the use of the dial and selected with a push of the bottom dial/display face. It has ECO mode that does the temperature settings for you.

Good product that is pretty comparable to the Ecobee3
Switched from an Ecobee3 with sensors. There are pros and cons to each but I have other Nest products so stayed with the Nest. I like that you can use the sensors to base the room temp from. With a 2 story house that gets much warmer upstairs than downstairs, it helps to ensure you are comfortable on whatever floor you are spending more time in. It also notifies you if it thinks your unit is running more than it should so you can check to ensure the settings are correct and things are working like they should. Wish there were more adjustment for high and low temp alerts though.
