"Up The Academy" has been listed on more than one "Worst Movie of All Time" countdown...but don't let that stop you from buying a film that allows you to check your brain at the door. First of all, early editions of the film had the Mad Magazine intro on it...which the magazine quickly pulled once they saw it...and a major character, Major Vaughn Liceman (played with delightful overkill by Rob Leibman), isn't even listed in the credits...gotta wonder if Mr. Leibman demanded that once HE saw this train wreck. Why rate it good? Because it's fun...it's so unbelievably campy that it's fun to watch...and anything that Mad Magazine would remove its support and name from has got to be interesting to watch. One other over-the-top performance has to be Tom Poston, whose character should have fairy wings...God only knows what he was thinking when he saw this! A couple of other things to watch for...you'll never look at a punch bowl the same again...and there's a five-man group that sets quartets back a hundred years...look, if you can find this for a cheap price, and you don't mind a movie that redefines poor taste and judgement, then get this...it is fun...and besides, any movie where you get to see Stacy Nelkin partially dressed can't be bad!Read full review
Damn, for some reason I remembered this film fondly...well, lets just say it has not aged well. This is why Netflix is a good thing, if you accidently pick up a crappy movie you can send it right back.
My second favorite movie ever!! (beside the outsiders) I love it and have now watched it many many times! Love it!!
This is an old time favorite. It came out before my time and it came on tv one day. A really funny movie.
it's an "old" comedy that i've seen ages ago for the 1st time on VHS :) pitty that they don't make so funny movies anymore!
