After having viewed the trailer to this movie , I became intrigued and had wanted to see it in the theatre. Unfortunately, it was not releaed in my area and it also proved difficult (well, impossible actually)to find in the rental stores. So I took a chance and purchased the movie without really knowing what to expect. I did enjoy the movie for the most part. The acting is quite good and the 'Weird Western' feel is definitely there. And while I applaud the film makers for their old school approach in creating the monsters for the set (the featurette included provides good insight towards ths aspect of the film's production) , ultimately, The creatures failed on screen. The director did a good job of making them scary BEFORE you ever see them..but once the cat is out of the bag - they look too low-budget and rubbery. Many other aspects of the movie are good..the Native mythos surrounding the Burrowers 'clan' and the set is as good as any Big budget film out there. But unfortunately, the major scene with the creatures in the woods stamps this film as sub par. Just my two cents..Read full review
This horror film is set on the American frontier. Racist white settlers battle savage Native American tribes, and neither side appears to want a truce. When several members of a white family are killed and others are abducted, a rescue party forms. They think they are seeking a Native American tribe called the Burrowers. In reality, the Burrowers are grotesque monsters who eat human flesh because the white settlers have wiped out the buffalo, which are the Burrowers' natural prey. There are a handful of sympathetic characters, but most --- particularly the American soldiers and the Ute Indians --- prove to be as inhuman as the Burrowers. There are lessons to be learned here, about the consequences of upsetting the balance of nature, and the stupidity of humans fighting each other rather than uniting against a common enemy. Or just sit back and enjoy a flesh-eating-monster movie with a unique setting. The outdoor scenes were filmed in New Mexico, which adds authenticity.Read full review
This was a very creative horror story. It's different than anything else out there and it takes place during the rough days of the American west. The historical accuracy was quite engaging and it all made sense in the end. There were spots in the movie that dragged but they were necessary. In those days it took a long time to cover 100 miles+

This movie had a fairly original plotline, an interesting creature idea and some good acting. Unfortunately, the monsters came off looking very silly and that ruined it for me. While I applaud the special effects crew for taking an old-school approach to the film (no CGI, just gool old rubber monsters and makeup specialists)- they didn't pull it off. Everything else about this movie is pretty good. But the burrowing monsters are such a big part of the film that when they fail, the movie fails. There's really not much more to say than that.
cowboy horror,, strange, but, not my cup of tea. Cowboys And Aliens was cool, but, Burrowers, Bone Tomahawk, etc.......... nah.
