Well filmed recording of Beethoven String Quartetts, but as a musician, I am missing the nearly tangible presence of a life performance. I miss the electricity in the air between 4 musicians and me as a listener with eyes and ears wide open. It is as if I open canned sardines in the kitchen on a rainy sunday lunch or having the same specimen grilled on a hot summer night on the beach together with friends and other good company. OK ! I know, it is 'canned music' but still f.ex. the DVD of Anne Sophie Mutter with Lambert Orkis at the piano, playing Beethoven Piano/violin sonatas will make you stick absolutely breathless to your TV screen even if you feel that it is too polished ('manièrisme' as we say in France). Even with the rather static Berg Quartett members, it is a nice DVD if only it is to remember and listen to Beethovens' genius. Enjoy (evetually with a glass of wine) Fred AdlerRead full review
