I put off reviewing it as I couldn't yet see if it ran, and it does! I got into a little bidding war over this and the price was still better than what it's been inflated to over the years. This story and game is phenomenal and the only "con" is the mechanical aspect is a bit clunky. However, I play games for their story, I couldn't care less about mechanics. It doesn't impede the narrative. If this game was released today it would be regarded as a groundbreaking classic. Sadly the reaction to the game back when it was released was... well. Reactionary. I highly recommend watching a playthrough if you yourself cannot play it, or play it using an emulator online. This game should be experienced by as many people as possible. I will give anyone who wants to play this content warnings for dealings of child abuse, heavy bullying, nongraphic sexual violence, eating disorders, and animal abuse. I know that sounds like a lot, but most of the things listed are very symbolically shown rather than put front and center to gawk at. Some are shown moreso obviously but its never grotesquely displayed. The story is tragic and follows a young girl reliving her childhood in the 1930s, trying to overcome the trauma she faced as a kid.Read full review

Pros + Creepy atmosphere & visuals exploring themes that have never been explored. + Nice soundtrack with awesome violin music. + A true Grimm-like fairy tale!!! Cons - Combat sucks. - Supplies are few, especially food or bullets. - Lots of walking. Comments Rule of Rose is a game like no other with a dark sense of humor that will either disturb you or make you laugh your head off. If only bosses were a little easier or you could command the dog to attack there might be more of a chance that the game would be less stressful. But you play as the weakest girl alive and you are scared at all times. At least the dog can find most items for you. Cutscenes are beautiful as well and tell a true tale of filth & fear that can only be admired by playing through this rare & odd game. Verdict Must have for any survival horror diehard fan. Great for a rental for some night when you want to creep yourself out. Also a fun game to play with your friends so if you can't beat a boss maybe someone else can.Read full review
This game is very unique in story and design. Although the gameplay can be a bit difficult at times, it is still very rewarding. The symbolism and suggestive nature about the game leaves it up to the player to decided what they just ‘witnessed’, leaving room for a closer look. I beat this game twice and I still feel like there are things I have yet to discover. This game was beyond it’s time and the world wasn’t ready for it in 2006. It needs more recognition and a second chance. I hope someday it is re-released or actually finished, where all the audio recordings and cut scenes are used.

Very short Review Cons: Fighting Pace If you want to go and slaughter creatures all day long, find a different game. To put it bluntly... The fighting sucks in this game ( Her weapon, hand and half her arm can go through the enemies and not hit them). This game also has a very slow pace. If you need to be doing something every second to have fun, stay clear. Ok, now for the reason that I purchased the game. Pro: The Story The story is very interesting and kind of twisted. I already disliked children, and this game did not help in that matter (The kids in it are EVIL)
This is in the top 5 best ps2 I’ve ever played and it’s similar to silent hill and haunting, this game was ahead of its time if only it didn’t get bad press and slander
