The Z22 is a nice little Palm OS PDA. It has non-volatile memory which is not true of the other Zire models, and it has a pretty fast ARM CPU. The only downside is the small-ish low resolution screen, but those give it great battery life and a small overall size. Overall it is a very solid device with good battery life. If you need a Palm OS handheld PDA, than it is a good choice.
This was an upgrade from a Zire and it looked to be easier to use and it is. The hotsync to the computer is easy and transfers from the computer back to the Palm are easy as well. The included rubberized case is a plus. The only negative is the font size could be a little larger which would make it easier to read. If you choose the right color combination for the display, this helps a lot. It's small, light weight, portable and simple to use. The battery life is much longer than the Zire as it was always "out of charge" due to poor connections in the charging station. The Palm Z22 uses an USB cable to connect to the computer and for charging. This makes it easy to charge.
Great Product - Well designed Excellent size for easy carrying. Good memory to hold many applications and electonic books Good battery life. Very durable. Withstands dropping and knocking around. Soft reset allows resetting the system without losing memory and applications. Hard Reset allows complete system reset for new user Palm Desktop software maintains complete backup and easily programs a new Z22 with all applications and data if an old one breaks. I'm very pleased and use it often through out the day to study the Bible and redeem the time when I am waiting in line by reading good books on it. Also, there are many excellent applications for it like the Power One Calculator.
If you just want a PDA that fits in you pocket, has long battery life (if the battery is new), and is fast, this is a good one. In buying these used, battery condition is important. Mine is okay. I probably will not ever replace it. The smaller, lower resolution screen is an acceptable comproimise for me, but if your eyes are not as good as mine, you will need to select a larger text size in preferences. The last, and arguably, the best of the drying pre-WEBOS palms. Enjoy while you still can.
Upgraded from an older visor delux. Was worried about the upgrade process, and making sure all data was saved. Older units (Visor included) always seemed to have difficulty/bugs with the SYNC function (the most critical function). Upgrade process was smooth (I made an extra copy of my entire "handspring" directory, just in case). Installed from CD (you SHOULD do this, it will go out on the internet in any case!). It found my existing directory and data, and username. It gave me clear instructions during upgrade/install. New unit has nice bright COLOR screen (yahoo!). It is nice and small and light. It has better functionality than older units. It runs with the latest/greatest Palm Desktop/SYNC (yippee!). The only negatives I can envision... (?) Battery life? And, when it can no longer charge, battery (factory) replacement. I may try it myself, in any case. I bought this for really one reason, to get to latest greatest OS and SYNC funstionality. But what I got was more. More color, more functions, more simple and better designed code, hopefully more bulletproof. I like the "leave on while recharging" feature too. Another negative, it should have shipped with at least a cheap plastic case for protection, if nothing else. Palm, it seems, is finally getting it RIGHT. No more bugs, I'm crossing my fingers and toes. ..best...Jim_carbuyerRead full review
