Great 'scope for the money; not a toy.
This is a good 'scope for the money. It is a full length real Newtonian, with full equatorial mount, fine-adjustment knobs and all. It's not the most solid mount I've seen, but adequate, given the (light) weight / small size (4 inch -- that's small for me). It does take patience an some understanding of how the earth turns to use the mount right, but once you do, it's worth it, for tracking at high magnification. The 'scope has way more light and clarity and magnification than other 'scopes in this price range. I got this for a beginner, but it's not just a toy -- you can see some serious space objects out there. The finder scope is sharp, but the mount for it is not really stable -- you have to be more careful than most people are. I may just put tabs on the top and bottom of the main tube, or figure out how to really secure the finder more tightly. I'm happy with this purchase.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Easy to knock out of collimation, but great once it's fine tuned
I'd like to start this review by saying that this is indeed a great scope. Once fully collimated it's incredibly sharp and gives beautiful quality views. But, there are a few issues. It's very easy to knock out of collimation if the screws aren't tight enough. The slow motion controls can get in the way when trying to pan in certain directions. The finderscope is kinda junk. But beyond that, it is a great starter scope and I would definitely recommend for someone trying out German equatorial mounts for the first time, though perhaps not as a first reflector.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Great telescope for casual star gazing
Follow the instructions and it goes together easily. I found this to be a great telescope for me as a novice and first time user. Follow the instructional discs provided and you to can be the neighborhood astronomer. Easy to use if you take the time to learn the specifics of the instrument as with any new piece of equipment.
