The Texas Instruments TI-83 Plus graphing calculator is the tool of choice for engineers, mathematicians, and science professionals. With the right features, reliable calculations, and quality display, it has everything you need. You will be able to find the answers to complex mathematical problems quickly. Those new to using Texas Instruments graphing calculators will find these devices useful for math and science classes. The search for a versatile graphing model that utilizes FLASH is over. The TI-83 Plus Calculator has a simple and intuitive key layout. Calculations are fast and simple. Creating graphs can be complex and difficult to understand at times. The easy-to-use graphing interface on the TI-83 Plus Calculator makes the programming language easy to learn. This allows you to create conversion programs into which you can enter information to create graphs. This TI-83 can store and analyze up to 10 matrices at once. With its data storage, lists can contain up to 999 elements, giving you the ability to store equations and variables. Creating graphs and solving equations can be done incorporating different variables. You can pick and choose which variables to use and see how they change the graph. Equations, plots, and coordinates can all be viewed at the same time. A variety of different problems can be solved using the Texas Instruments graphing calculator. Multiple plot types are available, such as scatter, box-and-whisker, WY-line, histogram, and probability plots. This allows you to address many types of statistical and graphing problems with one calculator. Advanced analysis tools are also available on the Texas Instruments TI-83 Plus. You can access statistical and regression analysis, graphical analysis, and data analysis when needed. There are features that can be used for all different types of math. The large, clear LCD screen is easy to read and can display up to 12 characters and eight lines. The operating system and software are upgradable, allowing you to stay up to date with the latest new features. The Texas Instruments TI-83 Plus runs on three AAA batteries. Additionally, there is a lithium-ion battery as a backup. Having a backup source of power assures you're not at risk of losing your valuable information when you’re in the middle of calculations. There is also an automatic shut-off system to save energy. A hardcover is included that can be slid over the face of the calculator. The cover provides reliable protection when it is not in use. It measures 7.3 by 1 by 3.5 inches, making it small enough to keep in your backpack, briefcase, or purse. You can always have it handy if you need to use it on the go. It is portable enough not to be cumbersome when you travel. The Texas Instruments TI-83 Plus is the complete package for advanced problem solving. It is full of the features you need to make complex calculations, and the FLASH software makes it a snap. Students can use it for statistics, calculus, trigonometry, algebra, and engineering classes. Professionals can use it to store and view valuable statistics to complete projects and calculations.
Texas Instruments produces some of the most popular and well known graphing calculators in the industry. The TI-83 plus can do most any math problem found in Algebra I, Geometry, and even some Algebra II/Trigonometry. The wide screen allows for graphing equations and multi-line functions.
The graphing capabilities of the TI-83+ are a superb choice for Algebra I classes. The ability to automatically find intersections and a variety of other important components of a graph are only key presses away.
The calculator has a powerful matrix editor allowing for easy multiplication, addition,...Read full review and subtraction of matrices. Division of matrices is not possible. The list editor allows for statistical analysis of data both numerically and graphically. Graphically, the 83+ can plot data in several different formats.
Anyone who is familiar with the BASIC computer language can program the TI-83+ with ease. The calculator supports the use of almost every function through a program. Programs can be typed directly into the calculator, or on a computer. The TI-83+ also supports a special form of programs called Flash Applications. Flash Applications are generally quite complex, and are written in a special language on the computer.
Overall, the 83+ is an excellent choice for anyone taking an Algebra course or any math class above that. The calculator does basic arithmetic, graphic, statistics, matrices, and a variety of other mathematical operations.Read full review
I bought the TI83 for a math class that required a graphing calculator. The purchase went smoothly. I was able to download a manual from Texas Instruments and begin figuring all it's features. The class textbook helped a great deal. I was also able to download a more current version of the operating system which help immensely. The base OS is a bit dull. The upgrade made the graphs much sharper and easier to read. If you get one, check the Texas Instruments website for information on the free upgrade. It is well worth it.
The TI83 has been around a long time and there is much written about it. It is a work horse educational tool, but it is also a bit long in the tooth. Newer and faster calculators are out there. Which new iteration, more features are added which add to the complexity of the instrument but also add to it's utility. As a base calculator it works well and fits my needs for the time being. Many undergraduate math programs still endorse the TI83/TI84. I suspect that if you are contemplating more work in engineering or the sciences, then a more recent vintage calculator would be worth consideration.Read full review
Pros:
The buttons layout are clear and have good feedback.
Like and fairly large LCD gray scale screen.
Have detachable clear plastic cover to protect the screen and keys.
Uses 4 AAA batteries, I used the rechargeable type and last a decent period of time.
Cons:
Back is bare and scratches easily.
All plastic and fairly bland looking calculator.
A bit pricey if purchase new.
Not pocketable.
Overall I think this is a good value. I wouldn't pay full price though and get it at Ebay at half of the price. Fully functional and suitable for high school to college.
I will start with the dislikes. I wish i had a cover that the new calculator comes with, i purchased this specific one without it, but great deal non the less. I wish the calculator had a backlight so that low light visibility wouldnt be much of an issue. I may just be new to it, but i wish use- ability was alittle easier. Besides that, the calculator is the greatest calculator i have ever gotten. It would easily make a statistics class easier and more comprehendable than it would be otherwise(actually, ive been in statistics in the past without a graphic calculator, but you must have alot of time and dedication without it, not anywhere near practicle to attempt....) Overall, i love this piece of technology, its built ruggedly, it is built by Texas Instruments which might i add, i own products like it which have lasted quiet awhile. It will just about take the brain out of math and allow you to propel yourself into strong theories and intelectual based thinking. Its a great tool to have, i highly recomend having this (ti- 83) or the ti-84 calculators around.Read full review
This calculator is great for the upper level math classroom. I took up through AP Calculus in High school in '02 and it served my purposes as I learned along the way. Now I am in Statistics as of Fall of '08 and the calculator is not only still functioning, but still serving my mathematical needs. In a year I will be going to UF and as of now this meets the calculator requirement.
Through these math classes I learned to use a good deal of the functions of the calculator, but unfortunately without the teachers I think I would have been lost. Although this calculator is very advanced it would have been difficult to learn to use with out the teachers. Who wants to read an instruction manual the size of a short novel?
