About this product

Product Information

For the third part of his American Trilogy--following THE CIVIL WAR and BASEBALL--Ken Burns takes on "that most American of art forms": jazz. The 10-part, 19-hour film begins with the music's roots in post-Civil War New Orleans and concludes roughly a century later. The story focuses not only on the personalities and events that helped define the music but also on the social and cultural climate in which they emerged, making KEN BURNS' JAZZ a film about more than just music.

  • Everyone That Loves Music, You Need To Watch This Series!!!

Awesome set of DVDs!! I am 70 and have been in love with Music since I was a baby. The Artists and History that is so perfectly covered in this Ken Burns Series JAZZ, blew me away! I have learned so many things that I never knew about. The Artists, the horribly hard and sad things that they endured....I just don’t have the adequate words to convey the heavy heart that I had watching some of this series. Whatever Video Series that I own by Ken Burns, I watch them frequently and learn more every time that I watch them! This Series, JAZZ is one that I HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

  • Fabulous Tribute to a Golden Musical Era

Honestly, we haven't played the new DVD set but so loved watching it on PBS I just had to own a copy. I know I will enjoy it again. I highly recommend viewing the entire series though you can watch any episode as a stand-alone program. All of Ken Burns programs have been both enlightening and entertaining but this one hits not only a specific music form but a window to the different time frames of the American people. Excellent and well worth your viewing time.

  • Best Jazz documentary ever

I’ve watched this documentary several times throughout my lifetime and it always feels fresh and exciting. Jazz is a great if not the greatest musical art form but the characters that created the greatest jazz are even more great and interesting. Ken Burns is the best when it comes to making the still black & white pics come alive and the writing and narration is awesome. So glad I finally own this classic jazz time capsule

  • Ken Burns Does it Again: Hiistory, Drama, Entertainment all rolled into one. JAZZ is Great

Ken Burns JAZZ is a wonderful base to begin building one's knowledge of JAZZ and its musical performers. It is a bit overwhelming at first but when you watch it again and again, it comes down to size and makes you want to learn more. It led me to the story of Clark Terry (Keep On Keepin On) and then to some of Wynton Marsalis work. I think "I Can't Get Started" is my favorite so far and looking forward to finding more wonderful songs.
