Efficiently managing photovoltaic power systems and providing improved output results, the Outback Flexmax 80 Amp Solar Charge Controller uses Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) technology for charge optimization. With negative or positive ground systems, the Flexmax handles up to 80 Amps of current even on very hot days of up to 104F. This high performance charge controller includes data logging and network-based configuration and control.
Thoroughly impressed with the Tracking and charging capabilities. This solar charger broadens the capabilities and efficiency of my solar panels. It also has programmable features that extends the lifetime of my battery banks. All these features are worth what I paid. I'm looking to buy several more in the near future.
This controller works great. I do wish it used a little less power on stand-by, as my region can have many days in a row (in winter) with no sun. I also have a small array system (I overbought for expansion purposes), so part of the low power issues are on me.
I do have it integrated with my inverter and Mate 3.
My only complaint is 1) a little pricey, but you get a TON of options... so you get what you pay for. and 2) I seem to get 10%ish better charge capacity from my midnite charge controller. Meaning the midnite controller is more efficient by a long shot.
NOTE: The midnite controller manages a wind turbine (which the Outback) is not rated for. That might be a "wish" item, as if all items are Outback, then I could use the mate3 to control/manage power better.
Works all the time, display gives me more data than any other device.
This is my third Outback controller, the only system component I have never had a problem with and will continue to buy and use. I have a solar generator in the bed of my 2014 Ram 3500 to power my 27 foot Airstream in boondocking situations and to charge every conceivable battery operated tool we own. 1000 watts of panels on top of a contractor's shell and 6 48 volt Chevy Volt batteries in the bed. The Outback controller and remote meter ties the whole 48 volt system together and provides seamless power.
My two other Outback controllers control solar arrays in off grid shops. Being able to tailer the output to the tenth of a volt really is awesome.
I have used Outback Solar devices for many years and have total confidence in all their products. You pay for quality and you sure get it!
Also I would like to extend a great vote of thanks to the dealer that supplied this unit this time. He was so far ahead of all my expectations and their service was beyond great it was spectacular! Thank you very Much. ... john R
I have had many Charge Controllers over the years living off grid. This Outback is simple, easy and EFFECTIVE! Simple setup, built sturdy of aluminum and great internal design.
