This is a "method" mostly in name, but it contains a useful collection of reprints of many 19th-century songs with simple tablature for the 20-key Anglo-German concertina (usable also, of course, for the 30-key concertina). Where this book limps is in the number of tablature errors for the NEW TUNES ADDED to this edition. This is a problem with many music books that include such tablature, showing an indifference to proofreading that is sometimes ridiculous. The fingerings for the OLDER TUNES are much more accurate, but they commonly ignore the problem of what to do if a tune contains accidentals not available on the 20-key concertina. It is best to see this as a good anthology of older tunes playable on a concertina, as well as on other instruments, such as flute.
I didn't know several of the songs in this book. That's okay, I'm always willing to learn a new tune. But a "method" book teaching a person how to play an instrument might be better advised to begin with a recognizable melody, so that the student only has to concentrate on learning how to play the instrument, and not also have to learn a new song at the same time. Also, the hand straps on the concertina I purchased are very loose and don't fit my wrists or hands, even at their tightest setting. There is nothing in the method book that even addresses how the instrument is to be held, where the straps go, not even a picture! It is so hard to play, I gave up after just a few attempts. I'm looking to purchase a new method book.

I needed a book to learn to play the Concertina. I've never even picked up a Concertina before and I was able to play several songs in about 15 minutes by using this book of instructions and songs. I love this method! Very easy to understand and lots of songs in this book. I'll be looking for other books by this author.
I just bought a Concertina on ebay and needed an extra book to start my first tunes with the Anglo Concertina. However, the cover came cutted probably by a cutter in any customs office. I do recommend all beginners to go for this Method by Bob kail. I decided to buy after reading some reviews from other people who got the same book. I wish I could find a similar Method for my Balalaika, Erhu and Pipa (Chinesse String Instruments), if you have a suggestion, please do not hesitate and tell me about it.
Even though I haven't tried using it yet, it appears to be easy to understand
