Very interesting side of the Death Star that you never get to hear about....an entertaining read. Fun characters to follow and the occasional "big name character appears"...like Darth Vader. And as you read about characters like him, you see another side of the universe.
A great expanded universe novel that gives a thorough history of the Death Star. Great for any fan that wants the story behind the story.
Originally, I was going to name this review: Meet the people Luke Skywalker murdered. All through-out the movies and the EU people have debated about Luke destroying the Death Star. Was it evil? Necessary? The counter argument was always they were faceless people that were on a space station designed to create mass destruction on a planetary scale. In the well written book by Reaves and Perry you finally get to meet some of these people that lived on that space station. You follow an eclectic group of conscripts, military men, navy officers, con men, prisoners, and volunteers as they go about their daily lives. You get to see how they came to be on the Death Star and what happens to them. Each character's story is a great little addition to the lore of Star Wars. You end up caring for them and learning how they fit into Episode 4. Another neat thing about this book is how it intertwines with the the Star Wars movie "A New Hope". There are sections that are taking right from the movie (Vader vs Obi-wan battle, trench run, "I find your Lack of Faith Disturbing" board room meeting. The book then goes in and fills in what happens between those scenes as our new characters interlock with the main characters from the movies. I found that the start of the book was a bit slow, however the last 2/3rds of it had me hooked! 5/5 Latsyrhc Tamarack CollectiblesRead full review
