  • It Wasn't for Me

I purchased this to replace Living Cookbook after some computer stuff and I found that the company went out of business, so I could not re-download the software. Even though MasterCook has many more features than Living Cookbook, it didn't seem quite as user friendly. I was used to having all my cookbooks and chapters in a nice neat list to the left of the screen, making it perfect for quickly picking through them. In MasterCook, once you open a cookbook you can't see the other cookbooks. Instead, you get a long list of recipes. I couldn't figure out how to put them into chapters. Two days of using this program I figured I didn't like it and moved on to Cook'n (which I love). I must say that the installation was easy and I was able to import my Living Cookbook recipes without any problem (something I have not been able to do in Cook'n). I honestly didn't use it long enough to try out all the features.

  • Technologically flawed, demands $$ just to keep using, but does have good features

I am a long-time user of MasterCook. My latest version was 14. When I oculd not access the files I had saved to the program, I contacted MasterCook, who refused to help in ANY way unless I sprung for 15 (thus the purchase). After installing, I tried again (as I had before with 14) to follow their site's instructions to retrieve my files, had my computer tech person try also, then contacted MasterCook. They were unable (after many hours) to restore most of my files. The tech support people always responded, but were condescending and made snap judgements without clarifying what I had done, or determining if it would be helpfull (i.e., you have 'x' problem and need to do thus-and-so--turns out it didn't help at all! 'you ddin't do what I said' --when I did, just send the wrong screenshot, or things happened to the files that didn't result from the instructions--but I was accused of 'adding' files to the folder!). They also gave instructions 'one at a time' but then didn't answer for long periods. Turns out the program is pretty unstable, files can be opened ONLY with their program, and files are stores in unconventional locations (causing much grief for my fech support person, who did 'normal' fixes that didn't help). The program does have features many may find useful, but for a person such as myself who only wants a convenient way to save, search, and share my OWN recipes, it is not the best choice---especially since I don't want to pay for upgraded programs on a regular basis. When it works, it is pretty good--you can copy/paste a text recipe, then copy/paste each section into its proper spot in the recipe (ingredients, directions, etc) fairly easily--though you DO have to tell the progam where each text goes. It did a pretty good job with web page copy/pastes too. So it's not all bad, I just wouldn' t recommend it unless you will be a heavy user willing to spend time and money to regularly upgrade and backup your files. I only purchased this MasterCook15 in a (almost) futile effort to retrieve my own files, and will be purchasing a different program to use for my recipes in the future.

  • Mastercook 15

After using Cook'n for many years, DVO got greedy and the membership is just to high. Switched to MasterCook. It has only been installed for on week and seem to just as good as Cook'n or maybe better. Very easy to use. Thank you.

  • Review

I've used Mastercook since 1995 and upgraded several times. This upgrade to MasterCook 15 on Windows 10 was the most difficult to install and get running smoothly. The biggest problem is that this version does not communicate with the printer without making changes in the program.

  • Good recipe program.

This was a replacement for software I lost having to do a reset on my PC. I've been using Mastercook for years. Not sure of the latest versions so happy to have found this copy.

  • Easy to use. Just like the older versions.

Once it installed it said to run the update. I updated and everything works. Even the print problem everyone is going on about works fine.
