I have the MC 101 and the MC 707. You would think if you had the MC 707 you wouldn't need the MC 101, but I stagger my songs when I play live, so while one machine is playing a song, the other can be loading a new song for seamless performance transitions. And the best part, all songs composed on the MC 101 can be transferred into the MC 707 if need be. I never use the synth edit functions on the MC 707, since it already has so many ready-to-play sounds, so the lack of those controls on the MC 101 never bothered me. I actually find the MC 101 a bit easier to use than the MC 707 when it comes to composing songs, and I only purchased the MC 707 after having the MC 101 for awhile because I found I wanted a higher track count. But for most songs, the MC 101 covers Drums, Bass, electric piano (rhodes), and either a string, bell or pad. I have a band that plays all the other parts, so the MC 101 is just there to keep us glued together. The sounds are professional, with every Roland kit you can think of included - along with 3000 other synth sounds. You really can't go wrong for the price.Read full review

Makes for really good sounding sketchpad with a deep synth & 90 effects plus 6 outputs & 4 inputs. But I don't like that samples aren't saved as wav files but some Roland file that can't be shared with other samplers plus the 1 minute at a time sample limit. Best if u use the sampler just to feed the synth for endless sound mangling madness!
