Encanto Is Fun, Exciting, and Full of Heart
This movie tells of a woman who learns her self-worth while those around her, family and friends, treat her as a disappointment unworthy of their attention. It takes place in Colombia. Much of the narrative is told in songs, one brilliantly conceived and presented song after another. It is in the tradition of Disney's other musical animated feature films, so the ending is somewhat predictable. A warning to parents of little ones: there are scenes of horrifying cruelty near the start and the end of Encanto. They are brief and likely will go over the heads of young ones, but they are necessary for understanding why every character behaves as he or she does. Children may leave the theater singing the songs; those people of a grownup bent may have tears in theirs when the movie ends, but they may be humming the songs for far longer. The animation is as good as I have seen, and the art is wonderful. I saw this on a widescreen TV (56 inches), which has great colors, and the movie made those colors sing.Read full review
