Top Spin will always get 50/50 reviews from consumers and 90/10 reviews from critics. Here is why: Consumers rate by what THEY like and how the game is to THEM! Critics rate on the GAME! Those who do not like TP3 are what I call arcade cheaters. Either they only play games that are very arcade (vs. realistic) in nature or they like to master games immediately with no challenge by using cheat codes. For example, those who prefer Hot Shot Golf/Wii Golf over the Tiger Woods series or those who like Virtual Tennis over Top Spin. One allows you to play the sport, with basic controls and limited options over the style of play, while the other is much more complicated because it is more realistic. If you find yourself wanting TW over Hot Shot and are looking for a challenge that allows you to hot more than 3 types of shots with only cartoon or AI players, Top Spin 3 is for you. Yes, the controls are a little complex, but so is tennis. It gives the consumer "complete" control over the player. You will always have to play computer players that have higher ratings than you to advance in your career until, obviously, you are the best. This makes for a great challenge that rewards you for doing things that would realistically reward you. Like good footwork or hitting the ball with correct timing. Also, the graphics and gameplay are why above any other tennis games. I have had my wife make the mistake of asking why I was watching Tennis when walking in on me playing this game!!! Ratings: Graphics: A- (92/100) Sometimes the players look a little clumsy even though they are supposed to be pro's Gameplay: A (95/100) The only thing lacking are a few more game modes, but those are usually for more arcade games and this is not. So all realistic game modes are realistically available. Value: A+ (99/100) You will not find a complete tennis game on the market!Read full review
I remember a few years back when the X-Box came out, there was a demo of Top Spin that either came with the systems or was given to certain stores for display model purposes. I tried the game then, and I loved it, controls worked great, really a well-made game. Thinking that these guys must be on top of things, I went out and bought Top Spin 3 when it came out on PS3, which is currently the only game system I own (personally, that is, my family has other systems in this house, but not that I regularly use.) Well, 2K Sports really laid the egg on this offering in the TS series. As the game starts up, you see all the most popular players are available as well as some legends, though many of the greats were left out, don't know where these guys got their roster ideas, but it is frustrating to see some of the losers on here that aren't that good and just have a good fan base. As for the controls, this game sucks worse than any I have EVER played. You have to hold a button just to get your player to run fast, otherwise he just watches the ball go by as he slowly walks/jogs to it. Then, while holding this button you are to,NOT press another button to hit the ball, you have to hold one of the four shot buttons and then release it when you are ready to hit, which is completely backwards and nearly impossible to get used to when EVERY other game out there works by pushing the button, not by releasing it. I played this game twice, and now I am selling it ASAP. It is boring, horribly planned and obviously just put together so that they don't lose out on their portion of the PS3 cash cow. I'll still watch tennis, but I will never buy another tennis game without a good review first.Read full review
You see some video of this game, and you wish to buy it because what you saw on that video is amazing graphix??? Well, not all that shines is gold. The game is good, but haves some little things that makes this game a little dissapinting. The gameplay is slow, the control of the tennis player is very weird and you hace to make some practice to learn how to hit the ball to get some good shots, but even when you became a master on this game it will still be slow. If i have the oportunity to go back to the past and decide if i buy or not this game, i probably decide to not buy it, but, in a future i buy it anyway because even with all the good and bad things, this is a good tennis game.
