So Rock Band was a long awaited game that has no hit the shelves of many stores. The game features plenty of famous bands and this time they are actually the real thing, not just covers from previous hits like the Guitar Hero Series. However the package does comes with its flaws. Let's review ROCK BAND! The Good: Ok, so the gameplay is great, it is tons of fun, you can download add on song packs for the game and its great that now you can play more than just 2 people with different instruments vs. Guitar Hero. The game features a well made menu, easy to navigate and lets you create custom characters. The online play is fun and is a great addition to people who don't happen to have 3 other friends with them at the moment, however if you have a guitarist, singer, and drummer and lack the 4th person you can always find someone online willing to join your band. The Bad: As I've said, gameplay is for the most part good, however there are some flaws with the instruments. There is a recall on the guitairs because the strummers go bad and no longer feel crisp, which is fine if you're just playing on easy, but when you get into tougher songs hitting notes become painfully hard due to the defective strummer. The other thing is the drums are somewhat awkwardly placed, the foot pedal seems too close, it does take a little getting used to. My biggest complaint about the hardware however has to be the poorly designed foot pedal. The pedal has a tendency to get weak in the middle and snap in half due to the lack of a center section support. Harmonix should have realized that people are going to get into the game and the foot pedal was going to be one of the main things that were going to get beat on. As of owning this item I have gone through 2 foot pedals, and its not always adults using it either. Conclusion: Rock Band is a great game! Great for the holiday season gifts. The flaws that is has are definitely overshadowed by a fun game with lots of character. This is definitely worth the money, but hopefully Harmonix does take a look in some redesign issues with the hardware. ENJOY!Read full review
Rock Band is a really great game. I've played many of the installations of Guitar Hero, and though the concept of these games is basically identical to that of Rock Band, the presentation and execution seems much better with Rock Band. It seems that the controls are much more precise than that of the competition, making playing the guitar seem much more realistic. That leads to the only negative that I have found with Rock Band - the guitar. The guitar included is attractive and its larger size is a welcome change from Guitar Hero, however the buttons feel softer and less responsive when pressed. The same goes for the paddle. The Rock Band guitar has some great features and feels good to hold, but it is simply not as easy to use as the guitars that come with Guitar Hero. Gameplay is fun and entertaining. It is likely that one could play this game for hours with a group of friends, and it is a good way to do something fun with the family as well. There are over 40 songs included in the initial release of the game, and there is a large library of downloadable content, all of which is available when you take your band on tour in the game. This all adds up to a good time for a long time to come. Rock Band will not disappoint!Read full review
You will hear fans screaming this. Why? Because over 50% of the controllers have had some sort of issue or another an have had to be return to EA Games to be repaired. This is however, if you get the controllers working "The Best" Guitar Hero band wagon jumper. In fact it's better since you can be the reset of the band sans keyboardist but who knows what the future holds for this game. So far the additional downloadable content far exceeds anything Guitar Hero 3 has released. It's the 2nd week of 2008 as of this writing. This game has been out well over a month so far and there are over 25 additional song available for as DLC from the Playstation Store as opposed to Guitar Hero 3's four new song for it's game. Only thing that needs to happen is EA Games needs to pull their heads out an have a better QA off the assembly lines on the controlers. I enjoy the Rockband guitar over the Guitar Hero versions due to finger size wonderful up date on a guitar contoller poor follow through on EA's part. The other brickwall that is hit is with the PS3 you can't as of this writing use the GH3 guitar with the game if the Rockband one is having issues. I still recommend going out an getting this it's amazing to see young and old alike sings song and telling stories of (I remember when) to songs from the 60's to present day. So Crank it to 11 Rockband get's an 8.9 / 10Read full review
The guitar in this game is great - as good as Guitar Hero III. Plus, there are a lot more songs available on the PSN to download right now, so that is a nice bonus. It takes a bit to get the hang of the drums - plus, like real drums, they make a bit of noise, so you need to put this off in a place that won't bother everyone... Best part is being able to play online with others...my first night I had the game I felt like part of a rock band as I and three others rocked out online. Its a lot of fun - only drawback is that you don't have a second guitar to play bass with as part of the band...have to get that later.
This is a very fun game, especially if your kickin' it at a dorm and drunk with a bunch of your closest buddies. Perfect game to make a fool of yourself and still not give a damn. You will spend a lot of hours throughout the night playing this game and every minute of it will be enjoyable. Down side? Gameplay seems a bit unrealistic. Like when your playing bass on expert and you make it to Iron Maiden and all the sudden you see a 5th string note... yea that isn't real. Get past that though, and your set for days on end of non-stop fun. Get out your Red Bull and caffeine pills for this one folks!
