The winner of Best Foreign Film at the 2008 Academy Awards, THE COUNTERFEITERS features a soundtrack that evokes both its World War II era and its inherent drama. Hugo Diaz's bright, guitar-driven tracks accompany the movie's lighter passages (see the deft, delicate "Mano a Mano"), while Marius Ruhland's orchestral pieces (the foreboding "Nazi Intelligence") home in on its tenser moments. Basic information about the people involved in making the soundtrack: Personnel: Ahmed El-Salamouny (guitar); Winfried Kraus, Ladislav Farkas (piano). Additional personnel: Marius Ruhland. Programmers: Bjorn Eichelbaum; Marius Ruhland. Audio Mixer: Bjorn Eichelbaum. About the movie: The movie is a fascinating look of an unknown aspect of the war, where the SS began a program, known as Operation Bernhardt, in counterfeiting British pounds and American dollars with the use of concentration camp prisoners. It is a true story of how these counterfeiters worked in order to survive. Well worth watching and learning about the Second World War from a different angle. I personally recommend this wonderful film and the soundtrack.Read full review
