This is the kind of game I like because it has everything I like about a game such as action, adventure, good graphics, blood and guts, and even a sexy girl. Once I got it working, it ran well on my platform without crashing. It did slow down a little in a heavy action scene but in a computer even a little faster than mine it should do well. My computer is only a 2.4 Ghz with 1 GB memory. Several other applications were running in the background with no real problem. The weopons in the game are great and powerful. Ammo seems a little hard to come by though so it is best to conserve until you can pick some up. You have to watch your back because the enemy will try to flank you. It's possible to sneak up on the enemy at times but if you alert one then you have alerted them all. On the down side, even though I chose "Easy" it wasn't that easy. The game is a real challenge because the enemies are somewhat prolific. Also you can't shoot when you are swimming but the enemy has nothing against shooting at you. Also you can't shoot coming up a ladder like you can in some of my games such as No One Lives Forever 1&2 so you end up exposing yourself to gunfire before you can shoot back. Also it is a bit hard to tell which way gunfire is coming from because the enemy doesn't use tracers. You just have to look for muzzle flash to see who is shooting the hell out of you. Even from a great distance the enemy is very accurate. Despite the shortcomings, I would recommend this game because it is exciting and will really get your blood pumping. It requires concentration and the ability to think under fire. Many situations require thinking outside the box.Read full review
FarCry is the first installment of the Crytek / Ubisoft title , and gets a 4 of 5 from me as a direct result of the game not having any "quicksave" feature. Due to not having a quicksave ability , the game can cause you to run into problems and have to go back to your last "checkpoint" , which are also not frequent , but strewn about your course at random. The graphics are good although not highly impressive. Seeing as the game involves 1 man against many enemies , it creates an environment where FPS players will like the challenge. There are mostly island jungle missions that connect to the storyline and it's intracacies , without alot of inner building sections. Having no partner , you weive your way through alone picking up ammunition , armour and health. The ammunition is plentiful , but the armour and health packs have to be earned along the way , making the missing quicksave feature , even more noticably needed. On a scale of 10 , I would recommend that this game is an 8 - due to it's obvious shortcomings. With a quicksave feature , I would give this game a 9 due to it's graphics and playability. FarCry does have plenty of playability if you can ignore the constant need to restart from your most recent checkpoint , if you are killed. The game does require you to manage your ammunition and the types of weapons you choose to acquire in your arsenal , IE : sniper & assault rifle , or 2 assault rifles and your knife : due to sniper fire upon you. Even on the easy level , you will have to plan ahead due to numerous enemies who relentlessly search for you on your way through the massive foliage covered jungles. Just when you thought you were safe , there are jungle monsters who cut you with their claws fairly easily and quickly. The storyline is good enough to keep you interested , but the missing quicksave will have you looking back into the options to find it as a result of repeatedly restarting from a checkpoint (annoying). It's a jungle game with everything but "quicksave". If you like FPS's with no aircrafts or tanks , this game is for you - you will have alot of fun trying to stay alive long enough to gain your control back. I recommend this game for FPS players , but I can't say I would highly recommend it - due to it's repetitious requirements with regards to checkpoints. FARCRY2 : FarCry2 is completely different from the original and lacks playability due to it's repetative storyline. Set on a single map and based on what appears to be mostly African countryside , you repeatedly follow the same roads and meet the same enemies during your missions. Each mission requires you to reach a destination located on the map , via the same roads. It can get boring driving jeeps around to find your mission locations. I would give FarCry2 a 4 of 5 and 8 of 10 due to a lack of structures. There are few buildings to navigate through , and there are also no tunnels underground. In pursuit of the Jackle who supplied guns to 2 sides in their wars , there is little accept repetative gameplay and driving. The good parts of FarCry2 are that the weapons are good and authentic with no spaceage weaponry. Being that there is so much repetition you will want to walk instead of drive , leaving yourself open for a long walk in open fields. As you proceed through the game you will encounter weapons that jam and some surprise attacks by your enemies , but nothing that could be called a battle.Read full review
Game Play 4 of 5 stars Graphics 4 of 5 stars Sound 4 of 5 stars A.I. 3 of 5 stars Pros: Cons: Overall: This is a good title and will provide several hours of entertainment. Had to install an automatic update to allow the game to resume from pause mode after a saved game load. Please note: this title was reviewed using a Dell XPS Gen 4, P4 HT @ 3.20 GHz, 4 Gig RAM, Dual 160 SATA RAID(0) hard drives and a nVidia GeForce 6800 256mb PCIe video adapter. It is important to read and understand the minimum and recommended system requirements for any PC video game. Systems that are faster than the minimum may provide significantly better performance and improve your gaming experience. Some PC video games list specific video card requirements and will not function without. It is also important to mention (because we sell video games on ebay) that we do not sell titles as NEW once they are opened and installed for testing. Most test games find a home with one of our testors (employees) and in rare circumstances, we will sell clearly marked as opened and used.Read full review
I FIRST PLAYED FAR CRY ON PS2 AND WAS HOOKED RIGHT AWAY. MY SON HAD TO SELL HIS GAMES AND PS2, SO I FOUND ONE ON EBAY (VERY REASONABLE PRICE). THE GAME DOES TAKE ALOT OF MEMORY SO IT'S A GOOD IDEA TO CHECK BEFORE INSTALLING! BUT, ONCE YOU SEE THE DETAILS AND LOCATIONS AND ACTION, YOU'LL UNDERSTAND! I DID FIND A FEW FAULTS THOUGH-MINOR AS THEY ARE: (1) YOU DON'T ALWAYS SEE THE ENEMIES COMING NEAR YOU ON THE NAVIGATOR TO THE LOWER LEFT OF THE SCREEN-MANY WILL APPEAR RIGHT NEXT TO YOU BEFORE YOU REALIZE IT AND KILL YOU. (2) THERE IS POOR DIRECTIONS GIVEN TO WHAT EXACT DIRECTION YOU ARE TO GO-I SPENT MANY WASTED TIME WALKING IN CIRCLES OR THE WRONG DIRECTION AND HAD TO DOUBLE BACK. (3) THE ENDING (LAST SCENE) IS LAME, BUT AFTER ALL YOU'VE GONE THROUGH TO GET THERE IT SHOULD OF BEEN MORE DRAMATIC. (4) NOT ENOUGH LIFE PACKS WHEN NEEDED. AND, LASTLY....THE CHEAT CODES ONLINE ARE VERY CONFUSING AND MOST DON'T WORK. I FOUND ONE THAT WORKS, SO IF YOUR INTERESTED...EMAIL ME AT TonyUtah@comcast.net and ask. THE GAME IS FUN AND I LOOK FORWARD TO GETTING FAR CRY INSTINCTS NEXT TO CONTINUE THE ADVENTURE!Read full review
This is a great first person shooter, and although it is a few years old, it still will take a lot of power to run it nowadays. Great graphics and areas to explore, but the AI will make the hardest man cry, even on easy, which really is the biggest factor that ruins the game experience, especially since you cannot save anywhere you wish. So far this is the most difficult FPS I've ever played, and you're pretty much dead at least once every checkpoint, but I still found it worth checking out and even purchasing at it's low price point. ($7-$20)
