There is a lot that is not quite the way things were during the targeted period, but for the most part they held as close to reality and history as they could-- the streets, poverty, brutality, sword fighting as it was really practiced, for the most part, but it is leavened with some cutesy sword antics, some misbehavior with roles and behavior, with exploitation of friends, so don't just swallow all of it. Yes, the upper classes used to throw their table scraps behind them, and life was not particularly valued, but as an expansion of the Musketeer sagas, this is a good addition.
I loved the movie thank you

A great fun swashbuckling adventure! Being in French with english subtitles can be kind of frustrating at times, its just a minor annoyance. The characters seem "real", with antics that make one sigh with humour.
