This is an investment to save you money!
SInce I purchased this I have been able to reduce my electrical consumption. It's so easy to visually see what is using energy and shut off, disconnect, or replace with more energy efficient devices. The meter itself is very well built and extremely easy to install. I monitor it through my alarm system so I can see what's going on at any time. Will not do what you think.

It’s not the “gen5” version, but is fine for learning what you can do with one of these. It was very easy to pair with the SmartThings hub.
