I bought this because I did not want a touch screen hiking handheld GPS because of the high price. I may try a touch screen in the future if The prices go lower. But this GPS is easy to use and is cheap and features a color screen. I like that it is simple to use. It is easily recalibrated in the calibration section. All you need to do is recalibrate the compass and your location will be found by the satalites. It can also be calibrated in other ways too. The better you calibrate the GPS the more accurate it is. I mark way points where I plant crops and where I find mushrooms and wild forage plants. This does the job well. I also plan on using it for a long hike but I want to make sure I know how to use it to navigate very well. So far it navigates well. I think it will work fine. It tracks your path so you can easily find your way back. There is a geocaching section on it so if you are into that you can do that. It's ok not the funnest sport but it's fun enough for a hike with a goal. Kind of like a scavenger hunt hike. The rocker wheel is a bit tough to get good with but if you have medium size hands you should have no problem getting good with the rocker wheel. The rocker can also work as a directional pad. This GPS can use sd cards! Be sure to download from garmin software to save your data on your computer. The GPS is somewhat water proof but I won't risk submerging it I don't want to break it on accident. But it should work ok in the rain. Overall I think for 100$ price range this is a good GPS but be sure to shop around and make sure you are ok using a rocker wheel.
The GPS works alright but the power cord that runs the GPS from the cigarette lighter/accessory unit was DOA. CD was missing as well. Everything was shown as a neat package in the picture with the implication that everything worked tacitly increasing the value. Not so.
