These accessory HO rail joiners are for some reason slightly better than the ones that come with the track. Invariably those get bent or flattened and need to be replaced. A little tricky at first sliding them into place but after a couple tries anyone can secure the new rail joiners no problem. At around 20 cents each they're a worthwhile purchase that will save time and avoid frustration trying to connect track components with damaged ones. Tip: medium to large layouts; order two packages.
