    I purchased this for sharpening straight razors, for setting the Bevel, it is perfect. Cuts very quickly, is nice quality and a good price. I first bought a King 1000 grit, which is too soft , this is like night and day different , people rave about shapton stones and I can see why, if you are looking for something for setting bevels on straight razors Buy this ! It has a plastic case that is also a useful stand , the price was good and I recommend this above others in the same price range

    Best low-cost quality Japanese splash and go

    This is probably your best option for most sharpening related tasks, comes with a convenient storage case that is also a stone holder and it works well. One of the better out of the box ready to go experiences. Some people question the cost of these stones, they are incredibly dense, slow wearing with pleasant feedback. They are a number of super cheap, highly rated stones sold on places like Amazon, they are manufactured in a couple places in China and sold under different names, mostly with glossy marketing only, they just don't compare to a quality stone like this one that is a slow wearing, splash and go with really nice cutting performance. A stone like this will last someone many, many years making them very cost-effective in the long-term. popular with woodworkers for their performance and durability. This stone performs best when it's surface is conditioned , with a diamond plate or leveling stone before first use. It isn't 100% required and will resolve itself through normal use. It's just a surface that is a result of the manufacturing process. A single stone like this is plenty to give someone incredibly sharp results. Most people for some reason pick up something super cheap, usually a combo stone... I don't really care for the extra maintenance involved for combo stones, The cost savings are minimal and doesn't allow you to pick out a progression of your liking. Everyone would save themselves a bit of a headache, some frustration and money purchasing something quality like at this stone and other quality Japanese options starting out.
