  • Upgrade your Ashtabula to a three piece cartridge crank.

This adapter is the quick , clean and solid way to convert American/cruiser type one piece crank bottom brackets to cartridge type three piece cranks. The only trick is making sure the bolt holes line up before you get the bushings very far into the bottom bracket shell. I've put these in a half dozen cruisers, and I'm always pleased with the quality and results.

  • Schwinn owners-be ready to modify

I bought this so that I could update a 70’s Schwinn Super Sport to a modern 3 piece crank. In the Schwinn bottom bracket shell, there is a step machined into it. If you do not modify the exterior of the adapters by grinding, filing, or sanding, you will never get them as far into the bb shell as they need to be. It would have been easy for the maker to do this. But beyond that, they are well machined and threaded. I was able to add a more modern triple crank along with a shimano bb cartridge. Just beware, that on older Schwinns and possibly other bikes as well, more work will be needed.

  • Not a great match for dept store or older ten speed frames (Schwinn) wo modification

I picked this up to try on three different bikes. If it worked, I was going to order two more. The problem is that the cups are about 15mm deep and whereas the cups they are replacing are 9mm flat and then round off. The bottom bracket shells in the bikes I test fit all has some issue. Either a lip that needed to be filed down or the seat tube or down tube protruded into the shell sooner than 15mm. You could file down the cups or go with the product from sunlite. I would stress that the product looks well made and in frames of higher quality with a better finish in the BB areas, this wouldn't be a problem.

  • BB adaptor

The bike had a little ridge, so I put the adaptor on a grinder to shave a little off. it fit in nicely, everything screwed onto it nicely. I'm proud owner of a custom Schwinn with a lightweight crank set. Thanks,

  • Nice adaptor!!

30 years ago, I raced pro BMX and used adaptors like this many times. This one is of equal quality. These days I'm just cruising around on my adult trike. Don't laugh, it hat a 212cc Predator on it! The adaptor fit perfectly, nice and tight! So now I have 3pc. crankset and 30 speeds (creative engineering and a little welding) for when I fee like pedaling. (Not very often.. lol) I did use some loc-tite on the bolt threads.. an old habits, I guess. I give it a thumbs up!!

  • Does what it's supposed to do.

Just use a bit of lube on the screws, on the threads & under the heads of the screws so it will go easier as less friction while tightening the screws. And bit of lube also on the cups, just first slam the drive side in (female threads), it does not need to go all the way in.. but as far as you can get it. And then you can use the bolts to tighten the other side in, and it will also tighten the drive side all the way.
