A gem (heh) from my childhood. A bit hard to get working on a modern machine - I finally succeeded using Windows 3.11 in DOSBox with a newer version of Quicktime - but worth it. This 1995 version, from Discis (NOT Dreamcatcher) allows you to point-and-click around like Myst, letting you explore the locations and gawp at the extremely-good-for-the-time scenery. The puzzles are creative, eye-catching, and all very visually unique, which culls the boredom that sometimes gets me in other puzzle-centric games like The 7th Guest. The setup, while fairly cheesy, is still unique enough to be engaging - you have found a pre-Sumerian city gate, which requires you to solve 24 puzzles and recover the jewels to enter the city proper. If you don't value the exploratory aspect, you may want to go with the 1996 Dreamcatcher edition, which culls the exploration in exchange for faster game flow and a slicker user interface (no word yet on how hard that version is to get running). The game also has easy and hard mode - some puzzles are the same in both difficulties, but others have major differences. I recommend sticking with hard mode. My only gripes with the game are a couple bad puzzles - the Hall of Hidden Links is just a bad idea from the start and will absolutely stump you into finding a walkthrough - and the overly abrupt ending. But if you're willing to overlook those, you'll have a great time with Jewels of the Oracle.Read full review

Amazeballz. Came in on time. The game is Just like I remembered it. Love the challenging puzzles. Graphics/sound are what you'd expect of something that came out in 95.

Strictly a puzzle game. No story line. The puzzles are difficult and mostly original. The save feature is terrible, no saving in the middle of a puzzle and these are long puzzles even if you know the solution. Just the kind of game I like and you don't see published any more.
