About this product

Product Information

The D4 utilizes an entirely new capsule specially designed to capture high SPL instruments with extended frequencies below 100 Hz. By employing sub-impulse technology that samples sounds at a rate higher than other mics, the D4 captures a truer image of the original sound than previous generation kick drum mics. Compact and lightweight, yet featuring full-size diaphragms, the D Series microphones employ exclusive Sub-Impulse Technology designed specifically to achieve the true 3-dimensional sound of instruments.Sub-Impulse Technology builds on the principles of the VLM diaphragm design to accurately pick up the subtle nuances of sub-impulse harmonics. These harmonics contribute substantially to the richness of the sound.

  • Great floor Tom mic!

The Audix D4 is a great mic for floor toms and even upright bass. Like Audix claims it's already pre-EQed and I just roll off some of the high end if cymbals are bleeding through on my recordings. As the Audix videos says on their YouTube videos you just point the mic head towards the center on the tom for the attack or angle towards the rim to gather more tone. I'm using the Audix D-vice with the D4 and it's super easy to install and adjust. I wrapped a dish towel around the D4 and wedged it between the tailpiece and body facing up towards the bridge on my Engelhardt M1 upright bass and a condenser mic pointing towards to the fingerboard get great upright bass recordings. Of course that setup would not work at a live gig but for recording it's fantastic. In the mix I add just a bit more low end on the Audix D4.

  • Beefy and fat for floor toms

Great mix for floor toms. Requires a hefty scoop out of the low-mids to sound natural for my taste, however. I'd prefer a mic with less mids and more attack. With proper EQ, it sounds full and natural. Great companion to the Audix D2 on rack toms. Easy to place on the drum due to small size and weight. I use Audic rim clamps and they work fine and fit in the mic pouches with the mics.

  • Nice Sounding Mic!

I use this on my floor tom, and the sound recorded through this mic is clean & punchy. I would like to try this on my bass amp next, if the results are like the floor tom, I will buy another!

  • Excellent mic

I use this Audix D4 to mic a tuba in a brass ensemble. Great sound, super light weight.

  • Drummer's dream

Outstanding product! I'm using It on a 16 in floor tom and it makes the drum come alive in live performances and recordings. Audix is top notch and a must have when micing the toms on my kit. Highly recommended!

  • Excellent Mic For Leslie Lower Rotor

Smaller and more cost effective than the traditional Shute and other mics typically used for this application while sounding just as good. Paired with Audix i-5 for the upper horn, the Leslie sounds great in the mix.

  • Great mic but fairly heavy

great mic but the Audix gooseneck clamps are just not stable enough for the weight of this mic.

  • Great mic!

Love the mic, doesn't pick up all that extra chatter from the other instruments. Great sound, good low end.
