The MOTU 8pre Digital Recording Interface is a multipurpose USB audio interface, with eight microphone preamplifiers and two banks of ADAT I/O optical ports. The MOTU 8pre Digital Recording USB Interface is a full 24-bit/96kHz audio solution that works with both Mac and PC digital audio workstations. The MOTU 8pre also includes MOTU’s CueMix DSP technology that allows users to route audio in multiple ways so that separate monitor and headphone mixes can be edited without any latency. This device integrates easily into existing recording setups and instantly adds eight phantom power mic preamps for recording multiple sound sources. The MOTU 8pre Digital Recording Interface connects eight microphone preamplifiers through XLR/TRS combination jacks, which adds convenience and flexibility to the recording input. Fast USB 2.0 connectivity and high-quality 24-bit resolution deliver pristine audio capturing ability for the studio or the stage. In addition to the eight mic preamp inputs, the MOTU 8pre Digital Recording Interface features two banks of ADAT optical I/O ports, which allow any ADAT output equipped audio interface to be connected to the 8pre so that it can process eight more channels of audio. The MOTU 8pre Digital Recording Interface CueMix DSP facilitates the creation of complex monitor mixes, without using any of the DAW’s computer processing power. With the combination of MOTU CueMix and the 8pre Digital Recording Interface, a user can create up to four distinct stereo monitor mixes and assign them to any of the digital or analog output pairs. Each of the four sound mixes can transport up to all 16 of the Pre8 USB inputs, plus all eight XLR/TRS analog inputs and the eight ADAT digital optical inputs. CueMix DSP also supports talkback and listen back, so that musicians and engineers can communicate between the control room and studio recording rooms. MOTU 8pre Digital Recording Interface CueMix FX software can also be controlled from an iPad using the TouchOSC controller app. This feature allows the MOTU 8pre gear to be controlled with an iPad over a Wi-Fi network. In addition to the analog and digital connectivity of the MOTU 8pre Digital Recording Interface, the device also has 16 channels of MIDI in and out. The USB signal carries the MIDI signal to the computer so that sample-accurate timing can be delivered to software hosts that support MIDI. The MOTU 8pre Digital Recording Interface also feature SMPTE (Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers) time code synchronization. This allows the MOTU 8pre to be connected as a slave to SMPTE, without an additional synchronizer. The MOTU 8pre Digital Recording Interface features 16 inputs and 12 outputs and individual front-panel trim knobs for each mic input. The 8pre also has an eight-channel analog-to-optical converter, five-segment metering for microphone inputs, and sample-accurate MIDI for precise sequencing. The 8pre can be rack mounted in 1U of rack space. I give a good review only because I know Motu products. I have not been able to use my purchase . My complaint is the item description. The manufacture on this purchase says the item is USB 2.0 compliant. ( The MOTU 8pre Digital Recording Interface is a USB 2.0 audio interface with eight microphone preamplifiers and two eight-channel ADAT optical ins with two, eight-channel ADAT optical outs. The MOTU 8pre Digital Recording USB Interface delivers full 24-bit/96kHz audio resolution and will work for either Mac or PC computers. ) This USB 2.0 compliance is the reason I purchased this item. I am not very computer literate so maybe I misunderstood its compliance. What it has is firewire attachments and now I have to find some way to crossover to USB 2.0 without reducing sound quality. Like I said Motu equipment is a quality high end interface but I think the information on the item is confusing and if other attachments are needed the advertising should show this.... great cheap mic pre
got mine for $125 and for that price it's amazing. I bought it to get 4 more channels @ 96KHz for my UAD Apollo twin and it does excellently (only 1 ADAT in on the Apollo). No problems, sound is quite good. Don’t buy. Garbage.
Does not work. It worked day 1, then I needed to save up for my own MacBook Pro. Go the MacBook Pro finally and now it’s stuck in converter mode. All drivers downloaded. Nothing works.
