Nice product. Easy to install pfsense. Have had no issues at all. As for the install, the console cable would attach to an rs232 port on your computer, so unless you have a rs232 serial port, you will need a USB to rs232 adapter in order to access the console.

This is a cool little x86 box with five LAN ports. The version I received had 128GB Intel SSD installed. I purchased this to re-purpose as a pfSense appliance. With the serial-console version of pfSense, installation was straightforward (my Dell OptiPlex has serial port standard). One time-saving tip for pfSense users: following initial startup, pfSense scans the available NICs. In case of the Barracuda F12, for some reason it skips over the first two (in physical- and MAC-address order). So the port labeled "3" on the box will be your WAN port and "4" will be your LAN port. This took me a day to figure out because we all tend to see what we expect (i.e. port 0 will be the first physical port on the box). Once installed and configured, pfSense runs like a champ on this device. I measured 847Mbps down and 941Mbps up on my Gigabit fiber connection. (Note: you must use the installed speedtest application to measure these figures - just running it in the browser resulted in much slower reported speeds.)Read full review
