This is a really fun movie. The reason I bought it was simple, It was my favorite movie in my early 20's while I served at McClellan AFB, in Sacramento, California. I saw it at the base theatre there. It is an unforgettable movie if you are seriously addicted to performances by either Diane Lane, or Willem Defoe. They are BOTH nothing short of amazing as young actors in this movie, "Streets Of Fire". My friends on base and I loved it because it has EVERYTHING WE LIKE in it. Good rock n roll bands, bright neon at night, a REALLY pretty girl that OWNS the stage, badass motorcycles, fighting, guns, vintage cars,AND Willem Defoe. Ellen Aim (Lane)gets kidnapped by The Bombers (led by Defoe)while performing on stage...Tom Cody (Michael Pare')must come home and rescue her, and enlists help from McCoy (Amy Madigan)a prior military soldier, to steal her back from Raven Shaddock, and The Bombers. Pare' as (Tom Cody)pulls off the daring rescue. Rick Moranis also stars as (Billy Fish), He is hilarious as her fast talking wise cracking manager. This is a VERY GOOD, and entertaining movie. Glad I finally found it, and bought it IMMEDIATELY!!!Read full review
Set in the 50's, this is a classic story of the quiet, somewhat misunderstood boyfriend (Michael Pare' of Eddie and the Cruisers) who comes back at his sister's urging to rescue an old flame. The twist; the "old flame" is Ellen Aim (a young Diane Lane in a great role for her), who has become a rock star and has been kidnapped by a gang of bikers led my a young Willem DaFoe (also a great role for him...one of his first big parts). The movie has great 80's-type music throughout that is set in a sort of Music-video that incorporates into the film. Rick Moranis and Amy Madigan also play great rolls as this movie keeps you chuckling from thier quipes at each other while containing enough action to never bore you. Well worth the prices being paid for on e-bay...I just wish this was out on Blu-Ray as the scenes can be dark, and the music-video portions of this movie would look even better on hi-def. This movie came out on HD-DVD (remember that?), and so I'm sure that's why it's not yet available on Blu-ray, but I can wish, right? One of my favorites...if you liked Eddie and the Cruisers or The Warriors, you'll enjoy this movie!Read full review
I saw this film a long time ago and loved it not really knowing the actors very well at the time I saw it; like Willem DaFoe. I also bought the soundtrack after seeing the film for the first time; it is also very good. The cast is awesome Michael Pare, Diane Lane, Willem DaFoe, Rick Moranis, Amy Madigan, Bill Paxton(this was an early film for most of these unknowns at the time). I liked the way these talented actors played off each other. This film has everything from comedy to a love story to lots of action, drama and musical. It's a feel good movie in which the down-on-his-luck hero defeats the enemy and wins the girl. It's a timeless, stylish "rock and roll fable" as the movie states. I know it sound strange how could you combine all those elements and come up with something good but trust me it is a great film completely underrated by critics at the time the film was released. It's sexy, exciting and warm hearted.Read full review
This film has special meaning for me on several levels. My wife and I were operating a small town movie theater during the summer of 1984 and we showed quite a number of notable movies (1984 was a good year for movies) such as "Romancing The Stone", "Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom", and a slew of others. But this was my favorite, hands-down! Walter Hill is an interesting director: "The Long Riders", "Last Man Standing" w/ Bruce Willis, and a host of other really good films, many like this one with almost surrealistic performances. It is one you must see to believe/understand. There is a strong atmosphere of strangeness to it... almost a Twilight Zone Lite knid of feeling. For instance, all the cars are from the '40s or'50s... the cops drive around in a beat-up Studebaker, and yet the armament that Michael Pare's character uses has a modern quality, nearly a futuristic quality. Very interesting film from several perspectives. It is truly a "Rock and Roll Fable." And the music is great! NOTE: The entire movie was filmed inside the world's largest sound stage: over a quarter-mile long and several city blocks wide! When you see it, you will find it difficult to believe it was all shot indoors. Enjoy!Read full review
Streets of Fire is a rock drama of a different sort. The story is familiar one, the beautiful girl, the quiet hero, the dark punk, the sidekick, and the nerd. But, in between is a solid performance from a very young Diane Lane as our rebel goddess/singer,Michael Pare as our quiet but misunderstood hero,Willam Defoe is great as the pale faced badie. With Rick Moranis,Amy Madigan, and more.Set in a dark steamy city, with great 80's music, its has a bit of the Warriors, a little Grease and alot of (in my opinion )Eddie and the Cruisers. A must for any 80's cult classic collectors.
