The Momentus 5400.4 is Seagate's second notebook hard drive to feature perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) technology. By magnetizing the data bits perpendicularly to the plane of the platter, it allows a higher areal density than what was previously possible with the traditional method of longitudinal recording. I've purchased several of these drives over the last 6 months and have had no trouble. If you're looking for serious performance, this is the wrong drive for you. Good performance in a desktop environment and stable. Search for these on ebay and price is usually right.
Very quiet hard drive, great speed and performance at a great price. Installed Windows 7 in under 25 minutes with 3GB of ram. Fit very nice in my Compaq. Also this hard drive has Seagates support with seagate seatools for troubleshooting. No hard drive better for your money
This drive is, so far, an excellent performer. It was a replacment unit for the crashed drive in my Toshiba laptop, and, is working out well. It is fairly quick, very quiet, and runs quite cool. As far as I can tell, its power usage is low enough that it has not hurt the battery life at all. For the cost, it is an excellent replacement or upgrade drive. It does not have some of the latest bells and whistles for dealing with being dropped and such, but, that should not be a big issue.
Large storage capacity , easy setup, runs quiet, fit nicely into my laptop but make sure your laptop supports SATA 3.0Gb/s before you install this drive. IT WILL WORK WITH SATA 1.5Gb/s
