I have been using Cork Roadbed Strips since 2003 and would not use anything but Cork Strips. It really deadens the sounds of train moving over the road. They are easy to use. I just nail them down with 1/2" nails placed every 10-12 inches apart. Some modelers glue them down, but i use nails since I'm always changing my layout. I put my track on then my gravel with glue and it is ready to go. It helps to have a sharp knife to cut the cork bed. It easy to make bends and is very flexible. Every modeler should use cork as it looks great and reduces the noise level of trains running around layouts.

It is very easy to use and can be used in almost any situation. I am not sure as to why the cork roadbed needs to be made in two pieces, as for my use if it were a solid piece it would work well with me. I do think the cork switch turnout beds are expensive and therefore I usually just cut out my own. All in all I believe it to be a good product for a model railroad,
