This is my review of the game, The King of the Fighters 12 for the ps3 console system. Ever since it's debut in 1994, the game has made numerous titles that usually end with the year. It is not until recent have they added the numbers to their titles rather than the usual year that corresponds with the release year. I have read other reviews stating that the game has huge flaws which makes the game terrible. I would agree the are serious flaws that center around the idea of not having a story mode. Another thing that has struck many players is the online lag issues. Even with the recent patch of 1.02 that tries to fix the problem, it still persists. I would say that even with these problems it should not prevent any fighting game enthusiast from playing this wonderful game. What is wonderful about this game is actually in the gameplay. Although, I felt that the move list was condensed and SNK did not really add anything new with the exception of a few characters like Iori (non-flame). In conclusion, if you are a fighting game fan then you may want to pick the game up for a cheap price if not, then you can always rent the game.Read full review
Ever since 1994, the King of Fighters was regarded as a niche type of fighting game, being constantly eclipsed by other fighting games in popularity such as Street Fighter, Tekken, and Soul Blade/Soul Calibur as they each came out and KoF was, therefore, never able to spread into the mainstream of fighting games. However, with its appearance at this year's E3, SNK Playmore made people pay attention to their long running series as people finally began to notice the King of Fighters series for themselves. even earning it a "Best Fighting Game of E3" award. Now, it's time that the King of Fighters has finally hit the next gen. Gameplay: 8/10 The gameplay is a mix of old and new mechanics from the KoF Series. The brand new features such as Critical Counter and the new Deflect Counter are nice additions and make for more fast paced action as compared to other KoF games. The gameplay remains in 2D, which in this case, helps the game maintain a great sense of speed and constant movement. The characters in the game are mostly well done and good additions. While some characters that should've been in the game aren't in the game, hopefully DLC will fix that in the future. The fighting system is fast paced and action packed. The only real downside is the Online Play. While there ARE some lagfree matches, for the most part, the online play is laggy and slow, making it sometimes unplayable against anyone with a connection less than Yellow. SNK and Ignition have promised patches to fix this, so we will see what is to come in the future. Graphics: 10/10 The graphics in KoF XII are, simply put, amazing! This is the redesign that the KoF series has been begging for for YEARS and now that it's finally here, it doesn't disappoint. Each character is beautifully rendered with this new hand drawn style and each character feels more alive than ever before in the KoF series. The energy attacks are wonderfully done, the animation running amazingly smoothly and making almost each move a work of art (Mature's Heaven's Gate is a great example). Overall, graphically, this game is a powerhouse. Sound: 8/10 The sound effects in the game are well done. The blasts and hits all sound painful once they hit, especially the effects of Kyo's Orochinagi and Terry's Power Geyser. The music is decent in the game, although with the game throwing a little tease in the sound test (Esaka '08- A remake of Kyo's Theme), you really wish that they included several other character themes and even played them when you go against that character. A minor gripe and nothing too bad. Controls: 10/10 The controls in this game are really intuitive. Each control is very responsive and you can even customize each shoulder button to be a different combination of buttons that allowing different techniques to be performed. There is nothing bad to really say about the controls. Extras/Unlockables: 7/10 This is the game's downside. Aside from trophies and artwork, there are no other unlockables to speak of within the game. This might not be a problem for some gamers, but for gamers who were spoiled with previous KoF Games having unlockable characters, bonus animations, Endless Mode, and Challenges, this WILL present a downside. Overall: 8/10 This game is a great start to a new generation of KoF. This game is very fun to play and especially fun if you're playing with someone else. The one major thing holding this game back is the current online lag.Read full review
The game was the revelation that the whole environment is high-resolution graphics, breaking with the tradition of repeated low-resolution sprites of old installments of the saga. Nona, artist in charge of the illustrations in the final sequences of The King of Fighters XI, will design KOF XII. The developers have hinted they want to create the "2D fighting game final." Nona reaffirmed this at the party The King Of Fighters Year End Party 2006 in Tokyo This game follows the chronology of the previous version, but first had speculated that this edition will close the saga of Ash, then was denied, claiming that the saga would end with the next installment in The King of Fighters XIII, in addition to so characters like Iori Yagami, Ash Crimson show changes that have to do with what happened in the previous game, the fact that it no longer has Iori features purple flames, because Ash stole his talisman. For those details, this game can be considered a tie-in or set of link between what happened in The King of Fighters XI and what will happen in subsequent games in the series.Read full review
When I bought it, I expected to see some nice shots from my fav character endings. I hoped to see some coherence in the story like these series usually do (Except in those special edition titles). Nice graphics, pretty smooth animation but no purpose. I don't even feel like characters are fighting for the KOF title anymore...
Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: Pre-owned
The King of Fighters XII is a decent fighting game but nothing special. It has a good amount of characters and if you follow the series, you will know most of them. There are very few levels so you will notice the repetition almost immediately, hope they add a few free downloadable levels, though I doubt it. There is also a 400mb patch that needs downloaded and applied to fix the online game play. If you can snap this game up for 20 to 30 dollars I would say go for it, but don't waste your money paying full price.
