A stellar musical excursion. One really gets a sense of the past as the Mormon Tabernacle Choir performs one Civil War era classic after another and then some 19th century classics. There are rousing as well as deeply poignant numbers. Tramp, Tramp, Tramp is one of the best examples of both. Can't think of a letdown on the disc. The original album was only the Civil War songs. With the added Stephen Foster favorites the cd really is a must have for fans of choral music, The Mormon Tabernacle Choir or the History of the USA. A delight. The songs you don't know are fascinating and the songs you remember never sounded better - so natural you will be looking for the conductors baton as you sing along.
I love this CD. Music is beautiful.

A classic mid 60s album of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir singing Civil war standards and part of an album with the Choir singing Stephen Foster songs. The sound quality is great and the choir is top notch and should be one of the first CDs of the choir one should pick up.
The recording was of poor quality. You had to adjust the volume down for the high notes and raise the volume to hear the low notes. At times you could not understand the words.
I owned the vinyl version of this some 40 years ago. This newest release also includes several Stephen Foster songs. Nearly 75 minutes of music.
