As his wife sings on the CD, "seems like I've known you for a thousand years," it also seems to me that I have watched Derek Trucks grow up. His taking over Dickie Betts in the Allman Brothers Band was a challenge not only artistically but rife with the potential of fan disapproval. So every summer when we went to ABB concerts, we would watch him mature and his talent explode. Soon we were going to every Derek Trucks Band concert we could. And while it took a bit longer for his unique style and sound to come together, it certainly has coalesced in the past couple of years. We went to his last concert of 2009, knowing he was taking a year off. What a party that was ... loaded with songs from this latest album and covers from Dylan and Clapton that sounded better than the originals. Already Free is a masterpiece. Obviously, the Grammy folks agreed.Read full review
Derek Trucks is a great guitarist & can control his band with the raise of an eyebrow or just a quick look. Very tight band who knows how to make a CD and make a crowd happy! Singing is great too!

As a guitar player I have really liked the classic rock/blues, there are many great players who have come and gone but Derek is one of the best without a doubt he has a great feel for the bands grove. The band rocks as well, nice blend of so many styles. If you like to hear Duane Allman, which he emulates the best, a natural replacement for Dickie Betts only better. If you have liked his previous albums you will love this one as well. this has a bonus with Doyle Bramhall II on a number of guest spots and sings lead on one.
Derek Trucks is a master of the slide guitar. He has put together a fantastic band and they have put out a great cd here.

As the liner notes of this CD state, this music is like an old pair of shoes or jeans or a sweatshirt. It's just feels comfortable. Derek Trucks' guitar playing just sings to the listener. I listen to this on my commute to work and I just sit back in my seat and take it all in. It calms the nerves and makes everything feel just right...like an old friend.
